The purpose of this study is to explore the value of the action research based on its purpose defined by Noffke(2009) and to provide information on the specific procedures and methods of the action research in physical education through the Dialectic Action Research Spiral model by Mills(2000). Noffke has classified the purposes of the action research into personal, professional, and political dimensions, the political dimension has been integrated into personal and professional dimensions with the implementation of major physical education policies and models interpreted from the perspective of policy goals. The study has described the relationship between the auto-ethnography that recently attracts keen attention and the action research in terms of the value in personal dimension and introduced the preceding studies on the development and application of the field improvement program in terms of the value in professional dimension. The policy dimension has emphasized the dissemination of the action research on field suitability of national level physical education curriculum, curriculum books and materials, and newly introduced physical education models. In actual practices associated with the Mills’ Dialectic Action Research Spiral model, a number of technologies and techniques required during the process of identifying the focus area, collecting data, analyzing and interpreting data, and developing advanced action plans have been introduced with focus on the case studies of preceding studies. The action research is intended to solve the problems in various aspects of education through based on continues deliberations and consultations with critical colleagues based on teachers' personal practical knowledge and experience. Therefore, this paper has emphasized the importance of the education on the theory and practice of the priori action research conducted by teacher education institutes for preparatory teachers.

본 연구는 Noffke(2009)의 실행연구 목적에 따른 범주구성을 근거로 실행연구의 목적에 따른 가치를 탐색해 보고, Mills(2000)의 변증법적 나선형 실행연구 모형을 통해 체육과 실행연구의 구체적인 절차와 방법에 대한 정보를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. Noffke는 실행연구의 목적을 개인적, 전문적, 정치적 차원으로 구분하였는데 연구자는 정치적 차원을 개인적, 전문적 차원으로 통합시키고 주요 체육정책과 모형실행에 관한 내용을 정책적 차원으로 명명하여 해석하였다. 개인적 차원의 가치에서는 최근 주목받고 있는 자문화기술지와 실행연구의 관계를 기술하였으며, 전문적 차원에서는 현장개선 프로그램의 개발과 적용에 관한 선행연구를 소개하였다. 정책적 차원은 국가수준의 체육과 교육과정, 교과용 도서, 새롭게 소개된 체육수업모형 등의 현장적합성에 관한 실행연구의 확산을 강조하였다. Mills의 변증법적 나선형 실행연구 모형에 따른 실제에서는 초점영역 확인하기, 자료수집하기, 자료분석 및 해석하기, 발전된 실행계획 세우기 과정에서 필요한 기술이나 기법 등을 선행연구의 사례 위주로 소개하였다. 실행연구는 교육현장의 다양한 문제를 교사의 실천적 지식과 경험을 바탕으로 비평적인 동료와의 지속적인 숙의를 통해 현장을 개선하려는 연구이다. 본 연구는 교사교육기관에서 직전교사를 대상으로 한 선험적인 실행연구의 이론과 실제에 대한 기초자료를 제공한다는 데 의의가 있다.
