- The present study sought to explore the aspects of Korean-English translation of bad words and English learners’ receptiveness for Korean-English translation of bad words. 78 college learners participated in the study and two questionnaires were administered. The results show that Korean bad words ‘Sakki’ and ‘Sibal’ have been translated with various English swearwords and that the offensiveness of ‘Sibal’ is much higher than that of ‘Sakki“. In addition, the receptiveness for Korean-English translation of bad words is comparatively higher and that when power and distance are involved in the discourse with bad words, the receptiveness for Korean-English translation of bad words would change a little. The directions of further studies were discussed with the limitations of this study.
