This research aimed to conduct an empirical study on the unification consciousness of many and unspecified persons for the purpose of complementing the limits of the existing quantitative method using unification consciousness survey. Research subjects were targeted at seven internet community sites in order to obtain opinions from many and unspecified persons, and the deducted materials were classified and analyzed via phenomenological qualitative research method. The investigation period of research materials extended from January to May of 2017, primarily 1008 comments, ultimately 309 comments were collected as research materials. The universal consensus of unification consciousness derived from the research process has been largely classified into five categories and seventeen subjects. The five categories were economic, systematic, ethnic, diplomatic and imperialistic. There were four proposed opinions considering the five categories of unification consciousness. Firstly, it was about reconsideration on unification benefit calculation, which is presented as a basis for unification by unification education. Secondly, it was about reconsideration on evidence to present the ethnic identity make known the appropriateness of unification. Thirdly, it was about securing confidence in the government’s unification policy. Fourthly, it was about the necessity of designing a new unification education goal which centers around learner’s ability.

본 연구는 통일의식 조사에서 기존 양적연구 방법이 가지는 한계점을 보완하고자 하는 목적으로 불특정 다수의 통일의식에 대해 실증적 연구를 수행했다. 연구대상은 불특정 다수의 의견을 얻기 위해 인터넷 커뮤니티 사이트 일곱 곳을 대상으로 했으며, 도출된 자료를 현상학적 질적 연구 방법으로 분석하고 범주화했다. 연구 자료의 조사 기간은 2017년 1월부터 5월까지였으며, 자료는 1차적으로 1008개, 최종적으로 309개의 댓글을 자료로써 수집했다. 연구과정을 통해 도출한 보편적 통일의식은 크게 다섯 가지 범주에 해당하는 관점과 열일곱 개의 주제로 분류되었다. 다섯 가지 범주는 경제적, 체제적, 민족적, 외교적, 제국주의적 관점이었다. 통일의식의 다섯 가지 범주를 검토하여 본 연구에서 제언한 의견은 네 가지였다. 첫째, 통일교육에서 통일의 근거로 제시하고 있는, 통일편익 계산에 대한 재고였다. 둘째, 민족정체성을 통일 당위로 제시하는 근거에 대한 재고였다. 셋째, 정부의 통일정책에 대한 신뢰 확보였다. 넷째, 학습자 역량중심의 새로운 통일교육 목표설계에 대한 필요성이었다.
