Honam Woodo Nongak is a Nongak in the area that established and developed Pangut as a modern way of domestic performance earlier than any other region in Korea. It was in the 1960s that people developed an interest in and distinction of Honam Jwado Nongak in the mountainous region of Jeolla Province and Honam Woodo Nongak in the Honam plains. Since then, a massive effort has been made in investigations and reports on the Honam Woodo Nongak region. This has gradually led to specific and comprehensive investigations and reports on Nongaks in individual regions. As part of the investigations on Nongaks in individual regions, they are found to have a lot in common in terms of structure and the unique rhythm of Woodo Nongak Pangut. They also feature unique characteristics depending on the region from which they originate. Although Nongaks in different regions have their own characteristics, Woodo Nongak features regional sharing for Pangut composition through activities triggered by modern level sponsors and regional exchanges among outstanding artists. This results in a relatively more systematic and unified structure compared to Panguts in other regions. The studies on this structure and development have led to a structural analysis of Pangut, producing considerable academic research accomplishments. The study on Woodo Nongak is considered quantitatively and qualitatively superior to that of Nongak in other regions. Undoubtedly, these investigations and analysis should extend to Nongaks in the near future. It is expected and anticipated to extend to the scope of research into Nongak, which has, so far, been centering on music and performance aspects, studies of material or socio-cultural dimensions and in-depth research into a possible correlation with the other folk art genres as well.

호남우도농악은 우리나라에서 근대적 공연양식으로서의 판굿이 가장 일찍 형성되고 발달한 지역의 농악이다. 전라도 산간지역의 호남좌도농악과 평야지역의 호남우도농악 에 대한 관심과 구분은 1960년대부터 시작되었다. 이후 호남우도농악 권역에 대한 탐구 와 전승 내용에 대한 조사와 보고들이 적극적으로 이루어졌으며, 차츰 개별 지역 농악에 대한 구체적이고 총체적인 조사와 보고가 많은 지역에서 진행되었다. 개별 지역 농악에 대한 조사로 우도농악 판굿의 짜임새나 고유한 가락 등에 있어 커다란 공통점이 있지만, 지역별로 독특한 특징들이 있음이 밝혀졌다. 지역별 특징이 존재하지만, 우도농악은 근대적 차원의 후원에 따른 활발한 활동과 뛰어난 예인들의 지역적 교류를 통해 판굿 구성에 대한 지역적 공유가 이루어져, 다른 지역의 판굿에 비해 체계적이고 통일적인 구성을 갖추게 되었다. 그러한 짜임새와 전개 양상에 대한 연구가 판굿에 대한 구조적 분석으로 이어져 상당한 연구성과를 도출하고 있다. 우도농악에 대한 연구는 다른 권역의 농악에 비해 양적으로 질적으로 우세하다고 할 수 있으며, 이러한 조사와 분석이 다른 권역의 농악에서도 빠른 시기에 진행되어야 함은 물론이다. 음악과 연행 양상을 중심으로 한 지금까지의 농악 연구가 물질연구 내지는 사회문화적 차원으로 확대되고, 다른 민속예술 장르와의 상관성에 대한 심도있는 연구가 진행될 것으로 전망하고 기대한다.
