The purpose of this study is to examine what the unique spiritual world of Koreans is and what kind of subjective thoughts Koreans have formed. In order to do this, I focused on the Hanul (天) thought of Donghak (東學). The philosophy of Donghak has been reinterpreted and developed over and over again. Suwun Choi Je-woo expressed the oneness of humans in the truth of going back, creation and destruction. Also, Haewol Choi Shi-hyung said that everything is a diverse expression of the whole universe. It was named “Ilimansu(一理萬殊)” by him. Ilimansu means a variety of space sources. If Suwun emphasized that all things are heaven, Haewol could express the concrete activities and development of Hanul (天). Yiam Son Byeong-hee also spoke Hanul as an active Sunya and emphasized Hanul’s activities of the whole universe: that is - the human mind. Hanul’s thought of Sicheonju (侍天主) emphasizes that everything contains the whole universe and means the whole universe, big self, or the evolution of the universe. These are referred to as the human beings of the universe by Lee Don-hwa. This expresses the healing of everything and saving all lives as a progressive ideology. The disease of the world comes from the separation of human selfishness. So, the liberation from this comes from the awareness of Hanul. It is the healing activity that liberates man, society, and all life. And it is the evolution of Hanul that constantly wants to improve.

본 연구는 한국인의 고유한 정신세계가 무엇인지, 한국인은 어떠한 주체적인 사유를 형성해 왔는지를 성찰하고자 하는 의도에서 동학의 한울사상을 주목하였다. 동학의 한울 사상은 시대를 거듭하면서 재해석되고 발전되었다. 수운 최제우는 무왕불복(無往不復) 과 불연기연(不然其然)의 이치 속에서 인간과 만유가 하나임을 표현했고, 해월 최시형은 일리만수(一理萬殊)로 일컬어 만유는 무궁한 한울(天)의 다양한 표현이라 하였다. 수운 이 천지만물의 ‘시천(侍天)’을 강조했다면 해월은 구체적인 한울의 활동과 그 전개 양상 을 표현한 것이라 할 수 있다. 의암 손병희 또한 한울을 공적활발의 한울님으로 말하여 ‘우주 전체’인 한울아(한울我)의 활동이 곧 인간 마음임을 강조하였다. 모든 만물이 한울 님을 모셨음을 강조하는 시천주(侍天主)의 한울은 우주전체이자, 대아(大我), 무궁히 향상되어 가는 한울의 진화를 내포한다. 이 모두는 이돈화에게 있어서 한울의 우주격, 인간 격으로 지칭되었는데, 여기에는 보국안민, 광제창생, 후천개벽을 표방하는 진보사상이 내포되어 있다. 광제창생은 세상을 질병으로부터 구하고자 하는 것이고 세상의 질병은 각자위심으로부터 온다. 이 각자위심으로부터 한울을 자각하는 ‘인간격’의 해방은 곧 인간과 사회, 그리고 모든 생명의 치유활동이자 끊임없이 향상하는 한울의 개벽이라 할 수 있다.
