Born and raised in Gram, Jylland in the southern Denmark, Erling Jepsen is one of the representative contemporary writers in Denmark. The characters presented in his works are mostly the marginalized outsiders, the lonely ones who lost their roots. The relationships between these figures and the surrounding world can be defined as enervation, uncertainty or desire. The drama, Manden som bad om lov til at være her på jorden, presents Allan, the main character, as somehow ridiculous man who drives himself to the extreme. For example by confessing a murder which he didn’t commit he puts himself behind the bars. The characters who seemed to quite boring and typical carry heavy burden in their minds relating themselves to the unfolding circumstances defining their own unique characteristics, and they are described abstractively unlike the sharp-minded ones. They could be just one of the unknowns in the crowd if they were not christened. In an attempt to psychoanalyze the characters in the drama, centering on Allan, the main character, Lacan’s theory of subjectivity, which is divided into three steps: The Imaginary, The Symbolic and the Real is applied to this study. Above all, Jepsen finds his emotional stability through his writing by oppressing his suppressed anger from his childhood. In this sens, it is quite interesting to see how the writer achieves the emancipation of self or recovery of being, in this case through Allan.

엘링 옙센(Erling Jepsen)은 덴마크를 대표하는 동시대 작가 중 한 사람이며, 덴마크의 남부 윌란(Jylland)의 그람이라는 곳에서 성장한 지방출신의 작가이다. 옙센의 작품에 등장하는 인물들은 주로 소외되어있는 아웃사이더이며, 뿌리도 없고 고독한 사람들이다. 주변세계와 이들 등장인물들과의 관계는 무기력, 불안정 또는 갈망 중 하나와 연결되는데, 본고에서 다루고자 하는 희곡 『이 세상에 머물 수 있게 해달라는 남자(Manden som bad om lov til at være her på jorden)』에 등장하는 주인공 알란은 비극적인 상황에서도 다소 우스꽝스럽고, 살인자가 아님에도 불구하고 스스로 살인자임을 실토하고 유죄를 밝히면서 감옥살이를 하는 등 스스로가 극단적인 상황으로 몰고 가는 인물이다. 다소 진부할 수 있는 인물들이 무거운 마음의 짐을 짊어지고 주변상황과 연계되어 나름대로의 독특한 특징을 갖게 됨으로써, 예리한 모습을 지녔던 이전의 등장인물들과는 달리 매우 추상적으로 그려진다. 만약 이름조차 없었다면 매우 평범하고 전형적인 사람들에 불과했을 정도이다. 본고에서는 옙센의 희곡에 등장하는 주인공 알란을 중심으로 라캉의 주체화 과정으로 구분한 상상계(The Imaginary), 상징계(The Symbolic), 실재계(The Real)를 중심으로 정신분석을 시도한다. 무엇보다도 옙센은 글쓰기를 통해 억압되어 있던 어린 시절의 분노와 불안을 발산하며 정서적인 안정을 찾는데, 옙센이 알란이라는 주인공을 통해 어떻게 존재의 순수한 회복내지는 자아 해방에 이르는지 살펴보고자 한다.
