This study examined the viewpoint of Yeongheo Haeil(暎虛海日) toward Seon(禪), Buddhist thoughts(敎學), and Buddhist invocation(念佛) based on his Seon poetry(禪詩). For this aim, several works related to the Three Gates Buddhist Practice(三門修行) from the poetry of Seon master(禪師) and the point of view toward the Three Gates(三門) has been examined based on it. With regard to the poetry related to Seon, the mindedness toward Kessei(結制) and Sitting in Seom Medication(坐禪) and the self discipline seeking a question for Buddhist meditation(話頭) were studied. The study identified that the founders of the Seon School had revealed the meaning of Gyeoljeol (徑截) which is practiced along with the suggested question for Buddhist meditation(話頭) to their disciples. In the poems recited after reading the books related to Buddhism, the viewpoint of SeonGyoilchi(禪敎一致) which means that YooGyoipseon(由敎入禪) fulfilling the Seon practice after understanding the contents of Buddhist thoughts, theory, and practice are one had been emphasized. This study identified that the essentials of the book were extracted and recited so as to understand the meaning and the reciting was done in his own method of expression by using the observed priming effect(點化) used in poetry and prose(詩文). This study identified that Ching Myeong Nyeombul(稱名念佛) vocalizing the name and pen name of ‘Save us, merciful Buddha!’ while looking on Buddha in one’s heart(觀念念佛) was suggested in the poems related to Buddhist invocation. In addition, the fact that Mindfulness Buddhist Elysium(唯心淨土) the paradise is when one’s inherent character is clean and Seon are Buddhist invocation and the practice of SeonPurelandilchi(禪淨一致) Buddhist invocation is Seon are also being emphasized. As a result of analyzing the viewpoints of practicing Seon, Buddhist thoughts(敎學), and Buddhist invocation(念佛) inherent in poetry, Seon maste were not limited to a single viewpoint when suggesting the Three Gates Practice(三門修行) viewpoint through poetry.

본고는 영허해일(暎虛海日, 1541-1609)의 선시(禪詩)를 통해서 선·교학·염불에 대한 그의 수행관을 고찰한 것이다. 이를 위해 그의 시(詩)에서 삼문수행(三門修行)과 관련된 몇 작품을 분석하고 그 바탕에서 삼문에 대한 견해를 검토하였다. 영허선사는 선(禪)과 관련된 시에서는 결제(結制)와 좌선에 임하는 마음 자세를 읊었고, 화두를 간(看)하는 수행법을 제시하였다. 화두를 들고 수행하는 것은 이론과 개념을 벗어난 전형적인 경절(徑截)의 의미임을 밝힌 것이었다. 불교 서적을 열람하고 읊은 시에서는 교학의 내용을 이해하고 그 안에서 선 수행을 실천하는 유교입선(由敎入禪)과 이론과 실천이 하나라는 선교일치(禪敎一致)의 관점을 강조하였다. 그는 교학을 접하고는 그 책의 요점을 발췌해서 전체 내용을 이해할 수 있도록 읊었고, 시를 지을 때는 시문(詩文)에 쓰이는 점화의 방법을 활용해서 자신의 표현 방법으로 주장하고자하는 의미를 드러내었다. 염불과 관련된 시에서는 마음으로 부처를 관[觀念念佛]하면서 ‘나무아미타불’의 명호를 소리 내어 염하는 칭명염불(稱名念佛)을 제시하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 자신의 본래 마음을 알면 그 세계가 바로 정토라는 유심정토(唯心淨土)와 선과 염불이 둘이 아니라는 선정일치(禪淨一致)의 수행도 강조하였다. 이와같이 영허선사는 수행의 견해를 제시할 때 어떤 하나의 관점에 국한(局限)하지 않았다는 것을 그의 시를 통해 확인할 수 있었다.
