The purpose of the study was to validate the Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire (MEAQ; Gámez et al., 2011) and develop a brief form. While the MEAQ is a promising measure assessing multidimensional aspects of experiential avoidance, its research and clinical utility is rather limited due to the length of the scale. Gámez et al. (2014) developed the BEAQ, a brief form of the MEAQ, but multidimensional factors reduced to one factor in the brief version. This study aimed to develop a brief version of the MEAQ to increase its utility while maintaining all factors of the scale. In study 1, 424 undergraduate and graduate students completed the Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire (MEAQ), Acceptance-Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II), Big Five Personality Inventory (BFI) - Neuroticism, Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) - Negative affect, Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) via a web-based survey. Factor analysis supported the six-factor structure of the scale and the 55-item Korean version of the MEAQ (K-MEAQ) was derived. The K-MEAQ had good reliability and validity. A brief form (K-MEAQ-24) was then developed by extracting four items from each factor based on factor loadings. The K-MEAQ-24 exhibited good reliability and validity comparable to the full scale. In study 2, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to confirm the six factor structure of the K-MEAQ and K-MEAQ-24. In a sample of 459 undergraduate students, both the K-MEAQ and K-MEAQ-24 had a good fit. In conclusion, both the K-MEAQ and K-MEAQ-24 are valid measures assessing multidimensional aspects of experiential avoidance in Korea.

본 연구에서는 Gámez 등(2011)이 개발한 다차원적 경험회피 척도(MEAQ)를 타당화하고 단축형 척도를 개발하였다. MEAQ는 다차원적인 측면에서 경험회피를 측정한다는 장점이 있지만 문항의 수가 많아 단축형 개발의 필요성이 제기되었다. 이에 원척도 개발자들이 단축형 척도를 개발하였으나 단축형이 다차원적인 요인구조 대신 단일요인으로 구성되었다는 한계점이 있었다. 본 연구에서는 MEAQ의 다차원적인 요인구조를 유지하면서 사용이 용이한 단축형을 개발하는 것을 주요 목적으로 하였다. 연구 1에서는 대학생 및 대학원생 424명을 대상으로 다차원적 경험회피 척도(MEAQ), 수용-행동 질문지 Ⅱ(AAQ-Ⅱ), 성격 5요인 척도(BFI)-신경증 요인, 정적 및 부적 정서 척도(PANAS)-부적 정서 요인, 우울증 선별도구(PHQ-9), 범 불안증상 척도(GAD-7), 삶의 만족도 척도(SWLS)를 온라인 설문을 통해 실시하였다. 탐색적 요인분석 결과 원척도와 동일한 6요인 구조가 지지되었고 55문항으로 이루어진 한국판 다차원적 경험회피 척도(K-MEAQ)의 신뢰도와 타당도는 양호하였다. 요인분석 결과를 바탕으로 각 6개 요인별로 요인부하량 상위 4문항씩을 선별하여 24문항의 한국판 다차원적 경험회피척도 단축형(K-MEAQ-24)을 개발하였다. K-MEAQ-24는 K-MEAQ와 유사한 수준의 신뢰도와 타당도를 보였다. 연구 2에서는 교차타당화 검증을 위해 대학생 459명을 대상으로 K-MEAQ와 K-MEAQ-24의 6요인 구조에 대한 확인적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 두 척도 모두 양호한 적합도를 보였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 한국판 다차원적 경험회피 척도 단축형(K-MEAQ-24)은 문항의 길이가 적절하면서 경험회피의 다차원적인 측면을 보유하고 있어 연구 및 임상장면에서의 실제적 활용도가 높을 것으로 기대된다.
