It is widely known that there is difference in technological innovation pattern by industries. Several researches on technological innovation have reflected the difference by industries as a simple industrial classification or dummy to empirical model. If the sectoral differences and uniqueness in innovation are not considered, it will be difficult to deduce implication applicable to the industries. In consideration of this issue, this paper distinguished innovation pattern of four categoreis on the basis of technological linkages among industries according to technological intensity and diffusion based on ‘R&D extended Input-output Model’ where R&D activities are explicitly reflected. Taking the product innovation as a dependent variable, different roles of innovation activities and characteristics were analyzed for each sectoral categories. As a result, we found a difference in the innovation pattern by the categories. Furthermore, the difference was widely found for the innovation source or protective strategies as well as innovation activity.

본 연구의 목적은 산업유형에 따른 혁신패턴의 차이가 기술혁신성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 있다. 그동안 선행연구들은 산업별 차이를 단순히 산업 더미의 형태로 간략히 실증분석에 반영하여 왔다. 하지만 산업 고유의 혁신유형이 고려되지 않는다는 것은 분석 상의 한계이며, 적용가능성 높은 함의를 도출하기 어렵다고 하겠다. 이 같은 문제의식에 따라 본 논문은 우선 R&D 활동을 기술집약과 기술확산으로 구분하였다. 다음으로 ‘확장된 산업연관모형’을 바탕으로 산업간 기술적 연계구조를 바탕으로 각 산업의 혁신패턴을 분석하고, 산업을 4개의 산업유형으로 분류하였다. 그리고 각 산업유형에 대해 제품혁신 성과를 종속변수로 하여 어떤 혁신요소가 유의하게 기능하는지 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 산업유형에 따른 혁신패턴의 차이가 존재하며, 혁신활동의 성과 뿐 아니라 혁신원천이나 혁신보호방법에서도 폭넓은 차이를 확인할 수 있었다. 이 같은 결과는 기업혁신지원정책이 산업의 특징 및 혁신패턴을 고려해 설계되어야 함을 함의한다고 하겠다.
