This study aims to analyze the activities of education-related interest groups and presidential candidates during presidential election campaigns. For this purpose, newspaper articles pertaining to the 18th presidential election that were published from November 27, 2012 to December 18, 2012, the official campaign period for the election were analyzed. The interest groups reported on the press during the election campaigns were related experts, journalists, politicians, political parties, educational groups, civic groups, religious organizations, academy groups, students, teachers, parents, private instructors, etc. The policy interests presented by these interest groups included public education, private education, universities, private schools, human rights, employment, innovative school and education in general. The means by which the interest groups expressed their opinions were editorials, debates, press report, open questionnaires, forum, verification of policy etc., and they were mostly shown to be standing neuter on various issues. The presidential candidates’ activities related to education during the election campaigns included press conferences, campaigns tours, election pledges, TV debates, written replies to public inquires by various interest groups, social media, etc. The activities of education-related interest groups during presidential election campaigns are identified and it is lacking in terms of policy elections but it is significant that discussion of education and educational policy is lively.

이 연구의 목적은 대통령 선거운동 과정에서 교육 관련 이익집단과 대통령 후보자의 활동을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 가장 최근에 치러진 18대 대통령 선거의 공식적인 운동 기간인 2012년 11월 27일부터 12월 18일까지 신문에 나타난 관련 기사를 분석하였다. 대통령 선거운동 기간 신문기사에 보도된 이익집단은 전문가, 언론인, 정치인, 정당, 교육단체, 시민단체, 종교단체, 학원단체, 학생, 교사, 학부모, 강사 등이었고, 이익집단의 정책이익은 공교육, 사교육, 대학, 사학, 인권, 취업, 혁신학교, 교육전반으로 나타났다. 의견표출방식은 사설, 토론회, 언론보도, 공개질의서, 집담회, 정책검증, 언론보도 등이었고, 지지성향은 대부분 중립적인 입장을 보였다. 대통령 선거운동 기간 후보자의 활동은 교육과 관련하여 기자회견, 유세, 정책공약집 발간, TV 토론, 각종 단체의 공개질의에 대한 답변서 제출, SNS 활용 등이 확인되었다. 이를 통해 대통령 선거운동 과정에서 이익집단의 활동 양상을 확인하였고, 정책선거라는 측면에서는 부족하나 교육과 정책에 대한 활발한 논의의 장이 전개되었다는 점에서 의미를 찾을 수 있다.
