Although the number of international students in Korea has been gradually increasing, the number of students who give up their study has been rising too. One of the reasons for this is a lack of Korean ability and Korean culture, and it is obviously a negative effect on the government's foreign student inviting programs, as well as its national image. In order to help foreign students adjust to their universities in Korea, a differentiated curriculum and learner-focused teaching methodologies seem to be provided. However, in fact, difficulties such students have can be solved outside of the classroom, not inside of it. Such extra-curriculum activities as friendly relationships between Korean peers or staff members, understanding Korean society and university culture, Improvement in language, and effective learning skills for studying their major subjects are examples of the outside-of-the-classroom issues. This paper, believing that extra-curriculum activities can help international students adjust their campus life in Korea, researched a development of extra-curriculum program for foreign students. Through a literature review, it classified the features of extra-curriculum into four categories, and went through a current situation research and needs analysis for improving the practicality in the field.

외국인 유학생의 수가 꾸준히 증가하고 있으나 한국어 실력 부족과 대학 문화에 대한 이해 부족 등의 문제로 유학을 중도에 포기하는 외국인 유학생도 계속 늘어나고 있다. 이는 장기적으로 정부의 외국인 유학생 유치 정책에 부정적 영향을 미칠 수밖에 없으며, 더 나아가 국가 이미지에도 타격을 입힐 수 있다. 외국인 유학생들의 국내 대학 적응을 돕기 위해서는 차별화된 교육 과정과 학습자 중심의 교수 방법으로의 변화가 우선적으로 이루어져야 한다. 그러나 외국인 유학생들이 겪는 어려움은 강의실 안에서보다는 강의실 밖에서 해결 가능한 것들이 많다. 한국인 동료나 교직원과의 원만한 인간관계, 한국 사회를 비롯한 대학 문화에 대한 이해, 한국어 능력 향상과 전공과목 학습에 필요한 효과적인 학습 방법 등과 같은 비교과 활동이 바로 그것이다. 본고는 비교과 활동이 외국인 유학생의 대학 생활 적응을 도울 수 있다고 보고, 외국인 유학생 대상 비교과 프로그램 개발을 위한 기반 연구를 진행하였다. 문헌 연구를 통해 외국인 유학생 대상 비교과 프로그램을 활동의 특성에 따라 4가지로 분류하고, 현장에서의 적용 가능성을 높이기 위해 현황 및 요구 조사를 실시하였다.
