This study aims to identify the effects of art therapy on self-esteem and relationship improvement between mother and child in low-income families located in city w, Gangwondo. The period of study is from Apr. 3, 2013 to Jun. 30, 2013. Two persons, i.e. mother and child were surveyed on Wednesdays for 100 min. per session (12 sessions in total) at **art therapy center, Songwoon Psychology Counseling Center. This study was conducted in construction of subjects, selection of subjects, study on art therapy program, pretest, art therapy implementation and application, posttest, and data processing in order. For the data collected, pretest and posttest were conducted and then quantitative analysis was performed to obtain any difference and qualitative analysis was executed to determine client’s changes by session in art therapy process. Accordingly, the findings revealed from this study can be summarized as follows: First, as a result of identifying the effects of art therapy on mother-child self-esteem in low-income families, it was found that there was a significant difference in pretest and posttest in both mother and child in low-income families after art therapy program, which suggested that art therapy had improved mother-child’s self-esteem. Second, as a result of identifying the effects on mother-child relational interaction, it was found that there was a significant difference in pretest and posttest in mother’s perception of mother-child relationship and child’s perception of mother-child relationship satisfaction, which suggested that art therapy had improved the interaction between mother-child relationship.

본 연구는 강원도 w시에 저소득 가정의 모–자녀를 대상으로 미술치료가 자아존중감 및 관계 향상에 미치는 효과를 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 연구의 기간은 2013년 4월 3일부터 2013년 6월 30일까지였으며, 총 12회기로 주 1회 100 분씩 매주 수요일에 자녀와 어머니 두 사람이 함께 OO상담센터에서 실시하였으며, 대상자 구 성, 대상자 선정, 미술치료프로그램 연구, 사전검사, 미술치료 실시 및 적용, 사후검사, 자료처리 의 순으로 이루어졌다. 수집된 자료는 사전-사후검사를 실시하여 그 차이를 구하는 양적분석과 내담자의 미술치료과 정에서의 회기별 변화를 질적으로 분석하였다. 이에 본 연구결과에서 밝혀진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다, 첫째, 미술치료가 저소득 가정 의 모-자녀 자아존중감에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아본 결과 미술치료 프로그램 실시 후 저소득 가정의 모-자녀 모두 사전-사후 유의미한 차이가 나타나 미술치료가 모-자녀의 자아존중감을 향 상시켰음을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 모-자녀 관계의 상호작용에 미치는 영향을 알아본 결과 어머니가 지각한 모-자녀 관계 지각과, 자녀가 지각한 모-자녀 관계만족도간 차이의 사전-사후검사에서 유의미한 차이가 나타 나, 미술치료가 모-자녀 간 관계에서 상호작용을 향상시켰음을 알 수 있다.
