The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning and essence of elementary school students's experience of peer relationship loss. The research method was applied to van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological method. The research participants were 11 elementary school students in grades 3-6 and collected experience records about peer relationship loss and interviewed them. We used movies, stories, and poetry to deeply understand elementary school students's experiences of peer relations. The thematic categorization process was repeated by repeatedly examining various experience data. As a result of the study, there were 19 sub - topics and 5 high - level topics on elementary school students's experience of peer relationship loss. The top theme is ‘to remain in silence’, ‘to disappear’, ‘to be attracted to the taste of others’, ‘to lose heart’, ‘to live in grief'. Each top topic appeared as 'loss of familiarity,’ ‘loss of belonging,’ ‘Loss of identity,’ ‘loss of trust,’ and ‘loss of presence.’ We did hermeneutical phenomenological writing on five high - level subjects. The loss of a child's peer relationship is to live in sadness, forgetting his own existence. Parents, teachers, and counselors should approach the significance and essence of a child's loss experience while looking at the child's peer relationship experience as it is.

이 연구의 목적은 초등학생의 또래관계 상실 경험이 지닌 의미와 본질을 이해하는 데 있다. 연구방법은 van Manen의 해석학적 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하였다. 연구 참여자는 초등학교 3～6학년 11명이며, 연구 참여자를 대상으로 또래관계 상실에 관한 체험기록의 수집 및 면담 을 실시하였다. 초등학생의 또래관계 상실 경험을 깊이 있게 이해하기 위하여 영화, 동화, 시 를 활용하였다. 다양한 체험 자료를 반복적으로 살펴보면서 주제적 범주화 과정을 거쳤다. 연구결과, 초등학생의 또래관계 상실 경험에 대하여 19개의 하위주제와 5개의 상위주제로 제 시하였다. 상위주제는 ‘침묵 속에 남겨지다’, ‘기대어 설 곳이 사라지다’, ‘타인의 취향에 끌려 다니다’, ‘진심이 버려지다’, ‘슬픔 속에 살아가다’이다. 각 상위주제는 ‘친숙함의 상실’, ‘소속감 의 상실’, ‘정체성의 상실’, ‘신뢰감의 상실’, ‘존재감의 상실’ 유형으로 나타났다. 5개의 상위주 제에 대하여 해석학적 현상학적 글쓰기를 수행하였다. 초등학생이 또래관계에서 상실을 경험 한다는 것은 자신의 존재를 잊은 채 슬픔 속에 살아가는 일이다. 부모, 교사, 상담자는 초등 학생이 경험하는 또래관계의 상실을 있는 그대로 바라보면서, 초등학생이 경험한 상실이 지 닌 의미와 본질에 다가가야 할 것이다.
