School violence is on the decline due to the increasing collaboration of government departments and the recognition changes of the students. However, the students victims are reaching 34,000 and they are suffering from mental and physical pain. We have to prevent or eradicate school violence, and that is the contemporary challenge that must be addressed. In this study, first I overviewed the concept, type, actual conditions and status of the police prevention, then studied the issue of school violence prevention and drew the improvement measures for the conclusion. The police prevention activities on school violence that I want to reveal in this study are the school violence prevention classroom, the school dedicated police officers, 117 School Violence Report Center. With these, I derive the problems of these activities and the improvement measures, and suggest several opinions about the policies on continuing the police prevention of school violence. Through this research I confirmed that the precautionary prevention is more important than focusing on the post countmeasures, and also it is needed the institutional mechanisms for the prevention of school violence more than countermeasure against school violence has already occurred. And additionally, the extreme behaviors of the victim students against the school violence, social problems from the school maladjustment of those students gives us many lessons for prevention of school violence. So in this research I can verify that preventive measures are required urgently.

학교폭력은 범부처의 협업과 학생들의 인식변화로 인하여 점차 감소추세에 있 다. 하지만, 현재 피해대상이 3만 4천명에 이르며, 피해자들은 정신적·육체적 고통 에 시달리고 있다. 이러한 학교폭력 피해를 예방 또는 근절되어야 하고 이는 반드 시 해결되어야 할 시대적 과제이다. 이와 관련하여 본 연구에서는 먼저 학교폭력 의 개념과 유형, 실태 및 경찰의 예방현황을 살펴본 후 학교폭력 예방상 문제점을 검토하고 결론으로 개선방안을 도출하는 방식으로 진행하였다. 본 연구에서 밝히고자 하는 학교폭력에 대한 경찰의 예방활동으로는 학교폭력 예방교실, 학교전담경찰관, 117학교폭력 신고센터 운영 등을 들 수 있고, 이를 중 심으로 예방활동의 문제점 및 개선방안을 도출하여 경찰의 학교폭력의 예방을 지 속적으로 추진하기 위한 정책에 대해 의견제시 하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 학교폭력 예방을 위해 사후에 치중하는 것보다 사전예방이 중요 하며, 이미 발생한 학교폭력에 대한 대책이 아니라 학교폭력에 대해 미리 예방할 수 있는 제도적 장치의 필요성을 확인하였다. 또한 부수적으로 학교폭력에 대한 피해학생의 극단적인 행동이나 학교 부적응으로 인한 사회적 문제점 등은 학교폭 력 예방에 많은 시사점을 제공하고 있어 이에 대한 예방적 대책이나 방안이 시급 하게 요구되고 있음도 확인하는 계기가 되었다.
