International collaboration of Korean musicals has increased since the 2000s and it starts out as being largely divided into two forms. First is the collaboration in England and America for the occupancy of license and loyalty reduction. Second is the collaboration with Asian countries to increase the market of Korean original musicals. To classify the types of international collaboration, general types of international collaborations on cultural contents were first analyzed in this study. The unique characteristics of musicals were applied to this classification, and the international collaboration of Korean musicals was sorted into co-financing, co-production, and co-creation. By looking at the state by regions, two kinds of international collaboration are in progress in China and Korea; incorporation through equity joint venture of separate producers and business agreement for distribution. In Japan, Korea-Japan collaboration for the localization of Korean original musicals is being actively carried out. There are even cases of targeting the markets of both Korea and Japan from the planning stage of the collaboration, and this kind of collaboration is usually deeply related to the Korean Wave. Korean producers have been continuously interacting with England and America through licenses, and based on this fact, the producers are increasingly participating in the musicals of the region as a co-financer or a co-producer. Furthermore, Korea is expanding and reinforcing the joint network with England and America markets through geographical and cultural unity with Asian regions. Specifically, the target of investment should be classified according to the scale of capital investment, and an appropriate support system must be established. Also, expansion of collaboration at each stage, from planning to distribution, is required. This can be externalized by matching partners for each collaboration stage through the musical market and carrying out investment by each process through regulatory investment funds. By fostering human resources in the area of investment, production, and creation and providing consultation for law, accounting, and promotion, the professionality of each collaboration process can be strengthened. Lastly, expansion of the foreign market can be attempted through development and use of universal stories. Based on these efforts, we wish for the Korean musical to grow as a content that is increasingly loved in the global stage.

한국의 뮤지컬 공연산업은 2000년대 들어 급성장을 이루면서, 해외 라이센스 뮤지컬 뿐 아니라 창작뮤지컬의 활성화도 점차 확산되고 있다. 더불어 근래 들어 한류문화의 관심증대로 인한 한국뮤지컬 시장은국내외적으로 각광을 받고 있는 상황이다. 그런 관점에서 본 연구는 한국뮤지컬의 시장 확대 방안의 하나로 대두되고 있는 국제공동합작의 권역별, 유형별 현황을 분석하고 활성화 방안을 도출하였다. 한국뮤지컬의 국제공동합작 유형을 공동투자(Co-financing), 공동제작(Co-production), 공동창작(Co-creation)으로설정하고, 여기에 산업 개발형의 한·중 합작, 한류콘텐츠 집중형인 한·일 합작, 장기 자본 이동형의한·영 합작의 산업적 특성을 접목하여 한국뮤지컬 산업 현황을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 기획에서 유통까지의 단계별 합작을 확대하고, 투자·제작·창작의 각 분야별 전문 인력 양성과 법률·회계·홍보 등의컨설팅을 제공함으로써 합작단계별 전문성을 강화시킬 수 있으며, 글로벌 보편성을 갖춘 스토리의 개발과 활용을 통해 한국뮤지컬의 국제공동합작이 더욱 확대될 것으로 기대한다.
