Asking questions about God and the Bible are chances for the faith to grow. Apostle Paul taught that faith comes from hearing by the Word of God. Christian faith starts from believing in God and grows by acting according to the Words in the Bible. Faith is not something that should remain static, but what needs to grow continuously. Calvin said that faith in God needs to grow until one dies. Even if one attends church for a long time, if he/she has a biased understanding of the gospel, it is hard for the person to have a strong and balanced faith. The early church leaders worked hard to spread the spiritual growth of Christians through the Word of God. ‘Lectio Divina,’ a reading style distinguished from philosophical and theological readings, was practiced. Back in the early days of Christianity, Lectio Divina was confined in the Bible. The history, patristic literature and works of saints became the subjects of spiritual reading. The practical meaning of Lectio Divina is reading the Bible and meditating on it. The meditation becomes prayer and allows the reader to connect to the Word in concrete ways. It is an effective method for deep meditation and prayers. Despite such practices, there are still faced limitations in reading and understanding the Bible as a whole. To address such limitations, this paper reviews ‘Tong Bible Reading’ by Byung Ho Cho. In his work, Cho proposes to read the Bible as a whole in chronological order. This practice has proven to have helped many people approach and read the Bible as a whole in chronological context. Another key method which Cho suggests is that we read the Bible as one story as a drama of God. This paper addresses the limitations of Lectio Divina and reviews the ‘Tong Bible Reading’ to examine how the two can be complimentary to each other for a better and deeper understanding of the Bible.

이 글은 성경읽기를 통해서 영적 성장을 위한 지도방안을 찾아본 글 이다. 바울도 믿음은 들음에서 나며 들음은 그리스도의 말씀으로 말미 암는다고 했다. 바른 기독교신앙은 신 구약 성경이 말하는 하나님을 믿 으며 그 말씀을 충실하게 행하는 것이기 때문에 성경말씀에 근거한 성 장이어야 한다. 그러므로 기독교 신앙은 말씀에서 시작하여 말씀과 함 께 말씀을 향하여 지속적으로 자라가야 하는 것이다. 초기교회 지도자들은 성경읽기를 통한 영적 성장의 길을 모색 했는 데 그것이 렉시오 디비나이다. 렉시오 디비나는 철학적 신학적 학문연 구나 주석, 또는 세속적 도서와는 근본적으로 다른 읽기 방법이다. 그리 고 실질적 의미의 렉시오 디비나는 하나님의 말씀인 성경을 읽고 묵상 하여 기도가 되게 하는 구체적인 성경 읽기 법으로 볼 수 있다. 렉시오 디비나는 성경을 깊이 묵상하고 기도로 가는 것에는 종은 방법이나 성 서를 전체로 보고 이해하는데 한계가 있다. 이 한계에 대한 대안으로 조병호의 통 성경 방법을 찾아보았다. 이유 는 통 성경 읽기는 성경을 부분이 아닌 전체로 읽으면서 빠르고 바른 이해가 가능하기 때문이다. 그리고 성경을 역사 순으로 정리하여 한 이 야기(one story)로 읽다 보면 하나님의 마음이 읽혀지는 직관이 살아 나게 되는 특징이 있다. 그래서 본 논문에서는 렉시오 디비나와 통 성경 이 지닌 장단점을 찾아보고 서로가 지닌 한계를 보완하여 성경읽기를 통해서 영적 지도에 좋은 방안들을 찾아 보았다.
