The Jeju Autonomous Police System was introduced on July 1, 2006 and celebrated its 10th anniversary on July 1, 2016. Over the past 10 years, the Jeju autonomous police system has brought about many improvements and changes. At the beginning, the governor of the Jeju Special Self-governing Province and the head of the Jeju Provincial Police Department discussed and agreed on the tasks to be carried out by the Jeju autonomous police officers. However, the Jeju autonomous police has shown a lot of improvements in terms of manpower, organization and budget. For example, it promoted autonomous police commander from autonomous senior superintendent to autonomous assitant commissioner, At the same time, introducing the long service promotion system to inspector. In the case of the organization, the existing team system was reorganized into a section system, and a tourist police section was newly established to focus on finding the characteristics of the Jeju region. In terms of budget, it also grew to over 13 billion won in 2016. The Jeju Autonomous Police has made great progress in terms of jobs. For example, in Jeju, traffic affairs are mostly handled by autonomous police, not the national police except criminal cases. In the meantime, the Jeju Autonomous Police has been announcing the performance of the previous year every year and at the same time presenting the business goals of the New Year. In this paper, the contents of this study are focused and the basis of the follow - up study is presented.

제주자치경찰제는 2006년 7월 1일 도입되었으며 2016년 7월 1일로 시행 10주년을 맞이했다. 지난 10년 동안 제주자치경찰제는 많은 발전과 변화를 가져오게 되었다. 시행 초에 제주특별자치도지 사와 제주지방경찰청장은 제주자치경찰공무원들이 수행하게 될 업무에 대해 협의 및 합의 하였으며, 그 범위 내에서 오늘날 까지 직무를 수행해 나오고 있다. 그러나 제주자치경찰은 그동안 인력, 조직, 예산 면에서 많은 발전을 보여주었는데, 예를 들어 자치경찰단장을 기존의 자치총경계 급에서 자치경무관으로 승격 시켰으며 동시에 경감까지 근속승진제도를 도입하였 다. 조직의 경우도 기존의 팀제에서 과체제로 개편되었으며 관광경찰과도 신설되 어 제주지역의 특성을 찾는데 주력하고 있다. 예산 면에서도 2016년도 경우 130억원이 넘는 규모 로 성장하였다. 제주자치경찰은 직무 면에서도 큰 발전이 있었는 데, 예를 들어 제주에서 교통업무는 형사사건을 제외하고 대부분을 국가경찰이 아 니라 자치경찰에서 담당하고 있다. 그동안 제주자치경찰은 매년 전년도의 업무 성과를 내놓고 있으며 동시에 새해 의 업무목표를 제시하고 있는데, 매년 큰 성과를 올리고 있는데, 본 논문에서 이에 대한 내용을 집중적으로 살펴보고 후속연구의 토대를 제시하게 되었다.
