This paper aims to analyse the Miracula of St Margaret of Scotland and their relationship with the canonisation process. St Margaret of Scotland, who had been venerated by the monks of Dunfermline Priory/Abbey since her death in 1093, was officially canonised by the pope in 1249. Her case was examined using a strict and complicated procedure to see whether or not she could be listed in the Catalogue of the Saints. The strict procedure of canonisation was a trend begun in the earlier thirteenth century as a part of the innovation of the canonisation process during the reign of Pope Innocent III(1198-1216). In this context, this paper focuses on the discussion about who collected and wrote the Miracula and when that happened in relation to the canonisation of the saint.

본 논문은 성 마가렛의 기적 모음집과 마가렛의 시성과정 간의 상관관계를 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 성 마가렛은 1093년 사후 던펌린 수도원의 수도승들로부터 성인으로 추앙되었고, 1249년에 교황으로부터 승인을 받아 공식적으로 성인의 반열에 오르게 되었다. 마가렛이 시성 받을 자격이 있느냐는 엄격하게 절차를 거쳐 검토되었다. 이는 교황 인노첸티우스 3세(Innocent III, 1198-1216)가 추진했던 시성절차의 혁신에 따른 결과였다. 이런 맥락에서 본 논문은 성 마가렛 기적 모음집의 수집 및 기록 주체는 누구이며 그 시기와 목적은 무엇이었는지를 시성절차와 관련해서 검토하고자 했다.
