This paper deals with the nationalistic idea in The History of Korean National Movement, which was written by the poet Cho Ji-Hoon in 1964. In 1960's, Cho Ji-Hoon tried to establish the conception of Korean national culture and Korean unique thougt against Western oriented scholars, who denied the value of Korean unique cultere. Cho Ji-Hoon wrote two significant books on Korean history, one was The History of Korean National Movement and the other Korean Cultural History. The History of Korean National Movement has three characteristics. Firstly, it dealt with the Korean communist and anarchist movement as a part of national movement. This is different from other history books on Korean independence movement during Japanese colonial period. Secondly, he conceived the modern Korea history as national movement not merely as anti-Japanese independence movement. He appreciated the social and cultural movement as the national independence movement. So his book containd the plentiful contents of Korean people's historical experience. Thirdly, He established the nationalistic theory which conceived Korean national movement history in arffirmative and evolutionistic viewpoint. Cho Ji-Hoon was born in 1920, and was grown up under the influence of the boy movement by Chun-do-kyo Boy Organization. He thought that the idea of Donghak religion, which was founded by Choi Je-Woo in 1860, had the possibility to develop as the leading idea of social revolution. And so, he appreciated the Donghak Rebelion as the Donghak Revolution for national modernization. He thought that Donghak was developed by Chon-do-kyo, which was named by Son Byug-hee in 1904. March 1st Movement in 1919, which was the representative national movement during Japanese colonial period, was originated and leaded by the Chon-do-kyo group. Therefore Cho Ji-Hoon appreciated Donghak as the central part of Korean national movement and culture history. He said that Donghak was the typical type of National thought in modern Korea.

이 연구는 조지훈이 1964년에 저술한 ����한국민족운동사����에 나타난 민족운동관과 동학관을 고찰한 연구이다. 조지훈은 일제 강점 시기 국내에 거주하면서 어려서부터 문화운동에 참여했다. 그리고 해방 이 후에는 우익 민족주의 이념을 확립하기 위한 활동을 전개했다. 이어 1960년대 초반 4.19혁명과 5.16군사정변 시기 민족운동의 역사적 맥락 을 체계화하기 위한 목적에서 ����한국민족운동사����를 저술했다. 따라서 ����한국민족운동사����에는 조지훈의 실천적 역사의식이 투영되어 있다. ����한국민족운동사����는 다른 독립운동사와는 달리 해외는 물론 국내 의 민족운동을 폭넓게 다루고 있다. 동시에 이념적으로 대립되었던 민족주의운동과 사회주의운동 모두를 넓은 의미의 민족운동 범주에 포함시켰다. 이에 따라 한국민족운동사는 시대 상황에 따라 다양하게 발전적으로 전개되는 것으로 체계화되었다. 그의 민족운동사 서술은 다양한 운동을 이념과 방법론을 기준으로 체계적으로 분류했다는 점 에서도 의미가 있다. 특히 그의 민족운동사에서 주목되는 것은 동학에 대한 인식이다. 그는 동학을 ‘근대 한국 사상의 전형’이라고 보면서, 전통적인 한국적 사상이 근대적으로 발전한 형태로 위치지웠다. 이는 동학농민운동, 3.1 운동 그리고 소년 운동 등에 나타난 동학의 역할을 중시하는 평가였다.
