We can consider the comprehensions of God in Donghak on the basis of qualitative similarity between God and man, moreover qualitative sameness consistently. If Donghak, the hotbed of new humanism, has the character of God-oriented theory, it should be the image of God through and through. And its image can be understood not by means of qualitative dissimilarity, but by means of qualitative similarity between God and man. In other words, the God-oriented theory of Donghak can be understood as the equal helper, who cooperates to seek the ultimate happiness on this world by means of close relations between them. It doesn’t separate God from man into different world. In this case, the new God-oriented theory of Donghak doesn’t seem to be contrary to the humanism of Donghak at all. The humanism of Donghak emphasizes man’s voluntary, practical training. Its ultimate ideal is Gisang-cheonguk(地上天國), by means of Poduk-cheonha(布德天下) and Guangche-changsaeng(廣濟蒼生) on this world. This humane thoughts of Donghak which involves characters of God-oriented theory, can be said as Neo-humanism. It seems to be excellent religious thoughts, which can cure all the problems, dehumanizations, environmental disruption originated from occidental modern humanism, owing to its castrating religious spirituality.

동학의 신과 인간에 대한 이해는 시종일관 신과 인간의 질적인 유사성과 이에 한 걸음 더 나아가 질적인 동일성을 기초로 해서만이 이해될 수 있을 것이다. 새로운 인본주의 휴머니즘의 온상인 동학이 신본주의의 속성을 지니고 있다고 한다면 이는 어디까지나 인간과의 질적인 상이성이 아닌 인간과의 질적인 유사성에 의거하여 이해될 수 있는 신의 모습이어야 할 것이다. 말하자면 인간과 신을 별개의 세계로 분리시켜서 이해하지 않고 쌍방이 상호적으로 긴밀한 관계맺음을 통하여 이 땅 위에서의 궁극적인 행복을 추구하는 데 협력하는 동등한 조력자(助力者)로서의 신이 동학의 신본주의에 대한 이해라고 할 수 있다. 이 경우 동학의 새로운 신본주의는 이 땅 위에서 포덕천하와 광제창생에 의해 마침내 지상천국을 염원하는 인간의 의지적이고도 실천적인 수행 수련을 강조하는 동학의 인본주의 사상에 하등 위배될 리가 없을 것이다. 신본주의의 속성을 내포하고 있는 동학의 이러한 인본주의 사상을 우리는 새로운 인본주의(neo-humanism)라고 명명할 수 있을 것이다. 이는 종교적 영성이 거세된 근대 서양의 휴머니즘으로 인하여 초래된 자본주의의 온갖 인간 경시 풍조와 환경 파괴 문제를 치유할 수 있는 탁월한 종교사상이라고 할 수 있다.
