This paper seek out to understand Yulgok’s ideas through his books; the Study of Rites deals with not only meaning of practicability and motivation of human beings but also his will for reformation towards building up an ideal society. Such ideas with his will of reformation are reflected on Gyeokmongyogyeol. Centered on the latter book, this study aims to understand a psychological mechanism of Ye in terms of a cultural perspective. In the latter work, Gyeokmongyogyeol, Yulgok tries to routinize the rites in a cultural aspect in order to develop the new society through changing human beings’ disposition. However, it is different with the idea that emphasizes establishment of the educational and scholarly order to inherit sages’ Ye. In Gyeokmongyogyeol, motives of action for the routinized practice as well as active practicability for being true are underlined. Further, the book is in collusion with an ideology of the Communication Society to the extent that practicability of the rites is a sort of process where human beings try becoming a sage voluntarily in the everyday life culture. Therefore, understanding the meaning of Ye’s practical motivation and willful action emphasized in Gyeokmongyogyeol as a psychological mechanism influent over human behavior and consciousness is a process of considering Yulgok’s the Studies of Rites from the cultural psychology.

본 논문은 새로운 사회를 향한 율곡의 개혁의지가 투영되어 있는 『擊蒙要訣』을 중심으로 율곡의 禮學思想에서 부각되고 있는 인간 행위의 동기성과 실천성에 대한 문화적 의미를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이것은 儀禮의 일상화 논리 속에 전제되어 있는 자발적인 행위의 동기 성에 대한 의미를 율곡의 철학체계 속에서 분석하는 것인 동시에 인간 의 행위의식에 관계하는 禮의 심리적 기제를 문화의 관점에서 고찰하는 과정이 된다. 율곡은 理氣의 절충적 세계관을 토대로 인간 행위의식에 대한 개혁의 필요성을 『擊蒙要訣』을 통해 제시한다. 그리고 『擊蒙要訣』에서 율곡이 강조하는 새로운 사회의 창출을 위한 儀禮의 일상화는 인간의 기질 변 화를 통한 새로운 생활문화의 형성을 통해 이루어진다. 하지만 이와 같 은 율곡의 禮學思想은 군주 중심의 敎學的질서체계와 다른 차이성을 가진다. 다시 말해 율곡의 禮學思想을 대변하는 『擊蒙要訣』에서 강조되 는 것은 儀禮의 일상적 실천을 위한 행위의 동기성과 時宜에 기초한 務 實의 능동성이다. 또한 율곡에게 있어 儀禮는 일상의 생활문화 속에서 모든 사람에게 적용되는 성인이 되기 위한 修身의 과정이다. 그러므로 율곡의 禮學思想에 대한 문화적 의미를 고찰하는 것은 율곡 의 철학체계에 기초한 禮學思想을 새로운 사회에 대한 이념성과 연계하 여 살펴보는 과정이 된다.
