In this paper, I am going to examine how the institutionalized general education at the university can pursue two goals. At first, general education is regarded as a means to develop general cognitive skills and as a way to internalize a variety of moral dispositions. The second objective is to improve the students’ability to deal properly with the requirements of social life. The knowledge-based society demands people who can apply thinking skills so that they can find their place in social life. Moreover, these skills are supposed to be a help to the solution of problems. Logic and critical thinking as it is taught in general education is the most direct and effective method for the cultivation of these thinking skills. Logic courses at universities need a new teaching model for the training of thinking which departs from conventional methods of teaching critical thinking and logic. The contents and method of these courses should be directly related to the established curriculum and to practical issues in life. Thus, universities need a curriculum that guarantees success in a knowledge-based society. Such a curriculum fuses teaching of standard scientific methods and support for students. Society needs relevant courses which teach persuasive communication skills. Logic courses can meet these requirements. Teaching students this way, students can discover that their acquired skills can improve their competitiveness and are therefore realistic and useful tools. Based on the investigation put forward in this study, I want to state the necessity of logic courses after having provided an overview of the current state of the course“ Logic Story”which is a part of the general education program of Kyonggi University.

본 논문은 어떻게 하면 대학에서의 교양교육이 스스로의 본질적 이념인 인류 가 추구해 온 정신적 가치들의 내재화를 변함없이 추구하면서도, 다른 한편으로 는 사회가 대학생들에게 요구하고 있는 다양한 능력을 습득하고 이를 적절하게 향상시킬 수 있는지에 대한 고찰이다. 교양교육의 이념에 대한 숙고를 통해서 지 식기반사회에서 절대적으로 요구되는 종합적인 사고 능력의 함양을 위한 가장 직접적이면서도 효과적인 교양교과목으로서「논리학」교과목을 제시하고자 한 다.「 논리학」교과목은 기존의 전형적인 이론 중심의 수업에서 벗어나 교과와 생 활이 직접적으로 연관된 사고 훈련이라는 새로운 수업 모델을 필요로 한다. 이처 럼 교과연관성과 생활연관성이 융합된「논리학」교과목은 사회에서 요구하는 설 득력 있는 의사소통 능력의 향상에 직접적으로 기여할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 학 생들은「논리학」수업을 통해 자신의 경쟁력을 향상시킬 수 있는 현실적인 유용 한 도구들을 익힐 수 있음을 인식하게 될 것이다. 이러한 고찰을 토대로 구체적 인 사례로서 경기대학교의 교양교과목인「논리이야기」의 분석을 통해「논리학」 교과목의 필요성과 위상에 대해 전망해 보고자 한다.
