The purpose of this article is to take a look at the background of appearing on the end of Goryeo and early Joseon when the spirit of civilization transition was high along with the change of writing and implication of the changed writing as appeared in the process. For resolving the issue, is selected as the main text. The intellectuals in initial time of Joseon had Lee Je-hyun’s as the model of Japrok. was set out for killing time, but it strives for historic value on its inner side. This is the tradition of the East Asian Study on lyrics that was not classified by literary men and historians. This is why Seo Geo-jeong quoted this book. In fact, did not have significant gap between the historic writing and literary writing. The sense of responsibility of the author to supplement the history through was great. However, should be approached as the issue of ‘legitimacy versus non-legitimacy’ and it is wrong to consider as a fiction. The story quoted on is overlapped in other Japroks. However, the matters actually occurred were recorded in different routes that each author renders different assessment. This also has to be considered as reflecting the position of historians that interpreted the history. At the end of Goryeo and early Joseon, namely, the era of civilization transition, the reasons to write this Japrok is largely outlined in two ways. One is the interests in the ordinary matter and the other is the practice in the ordinary life. This is the result following the optimism that the destiny of human may be possible only under its own practice in the space where we live in.

이 글은 문명전환의 기운이 흥성하던 여말선초 잡록의 등장 배경과 그 과정에 나타난 글쓰기의 변화, 그리고 변화된 글쓰기가 지닌 의미를 살피는 데에 초점을 맞췄다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위한 주 텍스트로 『태평한화골계전』을 선정하였다. 조선 초기 문인들은 이제현의 『역옹패설』을 잡록의 전범으로 삼았다. 『역옹패설』은 파한을 표면에 내세웠지만, 그 이면에서는 역사성을 지향한다. 이는 문인과 역사가가 구분되지 않았던 동아시아 서사학의 전통이기도 하다. 선초 서거정이 이 책을 본받아 저술한 이유도 여기에 있다. 실제 『태평한화골계전』에 수록된 작품을 보면 역사적 글쓰기와 문학적 글쓰기 사이에 간극이 크지 않다. 『태평한화골계전』을 통해 역사를 보완한다는 작가의 책무가 작동한 까닭이다. 그러니 『태평한화골계전』에 대한 접근 방식을 ‘정통 대 비정통’ ‘공식 대 비공식’의 문제로 맞춰야지, 이를 온전한 허구적 글쓰기로 치부하는 것은 잘못이다. 『태평한화골계전』에 실린 이야기는 다른 잡록에도 중복된다. 그것은 실재한 사건을 다른 경로로 접한 탓이지, 잡록 상호 간 직접적인 영향 관계에 놓인 것은 아니다. 그런지라 실재한 사건을 해석하여 평가를 할 때에도 사례에 따라 다른 평가가 마련되기도 한다. 이 역시 역사를 해석하는 사가의 입장이 반영된 결과다. 여말선초 문명전환의 시대에 문인들이 잡록을 즐겨 편찬한 이유는 크게 두 가지로 요약된다. 그 하나는 일상에 대한 관심이고, 다른 하나는 일상생활에서의 실천이 그러하다. 인간의 운명은 우리가 살고 있는 공간에서 자신의 실천에 의해서만 가능하다는 낙관론에 따른 결과라 할 만하다.
