This paper aims to explore a new prospect of global civilization through concilient understanding and ontological insight along with conceptual clarification of science, spirituality and evolution which are ‘three central axes’ in setting ontological radius of life. We will consider the connectivity of science and spirituality, the relationship between spirituality and evolution, and explore a new prospect of global civilization, particularly in terms of spirituality and evolution in Donghak. The connectivity of science and spirituality can be found in that the vision of ‘new physics’, that is everything in our world is connected to everything else, bears a resemblance to the spiritual vision based on non-duality. The relational nature of spirituality and evolution reveals itself in that evolution is essentially spiritual and co-evolution, and the evolution of human society accords with spiritual evolution as inside and outside relations. Evolution in Donghak is a long journey to returning to the origin and becoming one. The essence of evolution in Donghak is that when we reach mansaji, which means ‘being aware of all things’, that is to recognize the connectedness of all creation, a new civilization of life and peace opens. The ultimate vision of the ideal world of mugeokdaedo is the community of donggwiilche, where all the members of the nation are united for the common good, harmony and peace. The road to donggwiilche is to recognize that life is spirituality and the attempt to particularize and materialize life is to swim against evolution.

본 연구는 삶의 존재론적 반경을 설정하는 ‘세 중심축’이랄 수 있는 과학과 영성 그리고 진화에 대한 개념적 명료화와 더불어 통섭적 이해와 존재론적 통찰을 통해 지구 문명의 새로운 지평을 탐색하기 위한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 과학과 영성의 접합, 영성과 진화의 관계에 대해 고찰하며, 특히 동학의 영성 과 진화의 측면에서 지구 문명의 새로운 지평을 탐색하고자 한다. 과학과 영성의 접합은 우리 세계의 모든 것이 상호 연결되어 있다는 현대 물리학의 관점과 비이원성에 기초한 영적인 관점이 유사성이 있다는 데에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 영성과 진화의 관계적 본질은 진화란 본질적으로 영적 진화이며 공진화이고 인간 사회의 진화는 영적 진화와 표리의 조응관계에 있다는 점에서 잘 드러난다. 동학에서 진화는 복본(復本)의 여정이며 하나됨으로의 길이다. 우주만물의 연결성을 알아차리는 ‘만사지(萬事知)’에 이르면 생명과 평화의 문명이 열리게 된다는 것이 동학에서 말하는 진화의 진수다. 무극대도(無極大道) 이상세계의 궁극적 비전은 국가의 모든 구성원이 공공선과 조화와 평화를 위해 단결하는 동귀일체(同歸一體) 공동체다. 생명은 곧 영성이며 생명을 개체 화하고 물질화하는 시도는 진화에 역행하는 것임을 아는 것이 동귀일체에 이르는 길이다.
