I studied on the narrative characteristics and their background of appearance of the Miracle Stories(靈蹟談) in Hoesang Yeongjeoksilgi(繪像 靈蹟實記) in this essay. First, these the Miracle Stories can be divided into the types of Relief, Fantasticality, Appear in Dream, Auspicious Sign, Foreboding Sign, Precognition, Kanghwa(降話), Kangryungand(降靈), Psychomancy, Cure, etc., but are all the making narrative of the militation of Hanul[天主]. And these are well to provoke the piety of public readers through the sacred character of Hanul. Especially the stories are characterized as of the Miracle Stories of religious sect leader in that they reveal the sacred character of Hanul through the power of religious sect leader. Next, It can be said that the publication of Hoesang Yeongjeoksilgi was aimed at make securing the true lineage passed down from Suun(水雲) to Haewol(海月) under structure of the opposition and competition among the new religions derived from Donghak(東學). Additionally the main features of this book are to render the Miracle Stories in paintings and to supplement them by the narrations of the national writings and Chinese writings. This is significant as the planning of modernization in the sense that it considered of the varying levels of readers in those days. Therefore Hoesang Yeongjeoksilgi is significant as the securing of legitimacy and a part of of modernization in Sicheongyochongbu(侍天敎總部).

이 논문은 『회상 영적실기』 소재 영적담의 서사적 특징을 검토하고, 그 출간 배경에 대해 논한 것이다. 우선 이들 영적담은 구호, 기이, 현몽, 상서 및 괴조, 예지, 강화 및 강령, 감응, 치병 등의 유형으로 갈리지만 모두 인간에 대한 한울의 작용 문제를 서사화한 것이다. 그리고 그 효과는 한울의 신성력을 통해 독자 대중의 신앙심을 촉발하는 것이다. 무엇보다 한울의 신성력이 교주의 능력을 통해 현시된다는 점에서 이들 영적담은 교주 영적담으로서의 특징을 지닌다고 할 수 있다. 다음으로 『회상 영적실기』는 근대전환기 동학계 신종교들 간의 대립 및 경쟁 구도 속에서 ‘수운-해월’이라는 종통을 공고히 하려는 시천교총부의 의도에서 출간된 것으로 보인다. 또한 영적담을 그림으로 표현하고, 이를 국문과 한문 서사로 보완한 것은 당시 다양한 수준의 독자들을 고려했다는 점에서 근대화 기획으로서 의미가 있다. 따라서 『회상 영적실기』는 시천교총부의 정통성 확립 및 근대화운동의 일환으로서 주목할 필요가 있다.
