An exhibition stand plays a pivotal role in the composition of exhibition spaces. In addition, it represents the total aspect of diverse convergence industries such as structure and design. An exhibition stand is divided into two different categories: design booth which has the advantage of diversity in expressions and disadvantage of waste of resources as disposable structure at the same time; standard booth which is environment-friendly but not flexible in expressions. This study attempted to propose new exhibition stand design after analyzing the strength and weakness of the two systems. For this, related literature and previous studies were reviewed, and the strengths and weaknesses of system and wooden booths were investigated. Then, the results were applied to booth design and actual exhibition, using gyeolgu (jointing) technique, and assessed accordingly. In particular, the traditional connecting technique was focused in this study. Under this method, more than two different materials are connected to each other. It was confirmed that this technique is matched with exhibition stand design as the key element to express the proportional and formative beauty of hanok (Korean traditional houses). After selecting the best gyeolgu technique for exhibition stand design, this study suggested sabang (square) table and folding screen-themed new booth design. In addition, the materials and devices with which the physical properties of wooden materials can be overcome have been developed, and they are slated to be applied to exhibition stand design. The spatial features of hanok can be transferred to exhibition stand design through this gyeolgu technique. This study is meaningful in that it set a direction for exhibition stand design as an alternative to improve the functionality and formative beauty of Korean traditional spaces. There would be further studies on this matter.

전시부스는 전시공간을 구성하는 핵심적인 역할을 하며 구조물과 디자인 등 각종 융복합 산업의 총체이다. 전시부스는 표현의 다양성이라는 장점과 일회성 구조물로 자원낭비의 문제점이 지적되는 디자인 부스와 친환경적이라는 장점과 표현의 경직성이라는 단점을 동시에 지닌 조립식 부스로 나누어진다. 본 연구는 두 시스템의 장단점을 분석하고 새로운 전시부스디자인을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 관련문헌 및 선행연구를 고찰하고 시스템 부스와 목공 부스의 장단점을 파악한 후 결구법을 활용하여 부스디자인과 실제 전시에 적용하고 이를 평가한다. 본 연구는 전통 결구법에 주목했다. 두 개 이상의 자재가 결합하여 만들어내는 결구법의 원리는 한옥과 목가구 특유의 비례미와 조형미의 핵심적 요소로서 전시부스디자인와 부합함을 확인하였다. 다음으로 전시부스디자인에 적합한 결구법을 선정하고 이를 활용하여 사방탁자와 병풍을 모티브로 한 새로운 부스디자인을 제시하였다. 연구과정에서 목재의 물성적 특성을 극복할 수 있는 재료와 장치를 개발하였으며 향후 실제 부스디자인에 적용할 예정이다. 한옥의 공간적 특성은 결구법을 통해 전시부스디자인에 전이가 가능하다. 결구법은 한국적 공간이 가지는 기능성과 조형미를 살리는 대안으로 전시부스디자인의 방향을 제시했다는 것은 본 연구의 의의라고 할 수 있다. 향후후속연구가 지속될 예정이다.
