The aim of this study is to analyze systematically the research trends of alternative education in Korean from 2000 to 2016. For this purpose, 155 articles of academic journals and 26 doctoral dissertations were selected for analysis and three research questions were explored in terms of research objects, research themes and research methosds. The reseach objects were subcategorized by accreditation/non-accreditation, public/private, school levels, and student characters. The research themes were categorized into 5 fields of educational ideology/ philosophy, contents/methods, performance, foundation/operation and so on. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the researches were mainly focused on accreditated institutions of alternative education, private institutions, and high-school level institutions. The studies for youth of multi-culture or north-Korea backgrounds were not enough in quantitative aspects. Secondly, The most researches were done in the fields of educational contents/ methods, followed by the field of foundations/operations. Thirdly, the most researches were relied upon literature review for their research methods. Based on these findings, the practical and theoretical implications were suggesed for further studies.

이 연구는 대안교육 관련 국내의 학술연구 동향을 체계적으로 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 2000년부터 2016년 5월초까지 국내 학술지에 발표된 논문 155편, 박사학위 논문 26편 등 총 181편의 학술논문을 분석대상으로 하여 첫째, 지난 15여년에 걸쳐 국내에서 이루어진 대안교육관련 연구에서 연구대상별 특징은 무엇인가?, 둘째, 대안교육관련 연구의 주요 연구주제나 영역은 무엇인가?, 셋째, 대안교육관련 연구의 연구방법상의 주요 특징은 무엇인가? 등 세 가지 연구문제를 설정하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 연구대상에 있어서는 인가된 대안교육기관, 사립의 대안교육기관, 고등학교급 수준에 연구가 집중되어 있으며 일반 학생 이외의 부적응 학생이나 다문화학생․북한이탈청소년 등 특정 유형의 학생을 대상으로 한 연구는 양적인 측면에서 미흡한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연구주제(영역)별 분석 결과, 교육내용․방법 분야, 설립․운영 분야, 교육성과 분야, 기타 분야, 교육이념․철학 분야의 순으로 논문 수가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 연구방법에 있어서는 문현연구가 가장 많았으며 교육성과 분야에서 일부 연구들이 대안교육의 영향이나 효과를 보다 심층적으로 분석하기 위하여 양적 연구와 질적 연구를 병행한 통합연구를 수행하였다. 이와 같은 분석결과를 바탕으로 향후 대안교육 관련 연구수행을 위한 이론적이고 실제적인 시사점을 제시하였다.
