This study has the aim of critical research to find the philosophical base of Wholistic Education(WE). According to previous studies, the curriculum of WE has come from opposing against reductionism and objective positivism, and proposed the curriculum of consilience. But E. Wilson has insisted on reductionism and positivism in Consilience. This study gives a critical review of the relation between consilience and positivism. As the representative positivism, logical positivism has come from the intension of searching for the creative method of science. Thus the discussion of the relation makes us ask the question of what the creative method in WE is. This study will find the answer of it from the viewpoint of neurophilosophy which is emerging recently. The relation between consilience and the creative method will be revealed during the discussion of it. If the curriculum of WE is the creative method, the answer guide us to ask the question of what the better curriculum of it is. The discussion of it will make us find new assignments in WE.

이 연구의 목적은 홀리스틱 교육(holistic education)의 기본 이념 혹은 철학적 기초를 창의적 방법의 측면에서 비판적으로 탐색하려는 데에 있다. 선행 연구자들에 따르면, 홀리스틱 교육의 교과과정은 환원주의와 객관적 실증주의에 반대하며, 통섭의 교과과정을 지지한다. 그러나 Wilson은 Consilience에서 환원주의와 실증주의를 지지한다. 이 연구는 특별히 통섭과 실증주의 사이의 관계를 비판적으로 검토한다. 실증주의 중 대표자격인 논리실증주의(logical positivism)는 창의적 과학방법을 모색하려는 의도에서 출현했다. 그러므로 통섭과 실증주의 사이의 관계에 대한 논의는, 홀리스틱 교과과정이 창의성을 높여줄 방안인지 묻게 만든다. 이 연구는 그 대답을 요즘 등장한 신경철학(neurophilosophy)의 관점에서 찾아본다. 그 논의 과정에서 통섭과 창의적 방법 사이의 관계도 드러난다. 만약 홀리스틱 교과과정이 창의성을 높여 줄 방안이라면, 창의성을 더욱 길러줄 과정이 무엇일지도 논의해야 한다. 그러한 논의는 홀리스틱 교육에 새로운 과제를 일깨워 준다.
