This study explores Kwonwoo's life story briefly and investigates Kwonwoo's stream of consciousness reflected on Kwonwoo's diary. For this study, the contents of Kwonwoo's diary were divided into Kwonwoo's politics and historical consciousness, personnel anecdotes and social conditions. In Kwowoon's politics and historical consciousness, the focus was on his descriptions and reflections on the historical events and facts written in the diary. Kwonwoo criticized the disappearance of democracy during the Park Junghee's regime and envied President Nixon's impeachment in the United States. In addition, he revealed that politicians during that time were unreliable. However, he rarely criticized the government after President Park Junghee's death. In the 1980s, Kwonwoo became pro-government and conservative. This implies that it is natural for Kwonwoo to feel in this way with advancing years. In Kwonwoo's diary, he narrated diverse people such as the scholars of the Chinese classics, fighters for independence, friends, and politicians and so on in his personnel anecdotal stories. This shows that he was acquainted with a lot of people in diverse fields. Through those anecdotal stories, he emphasized the importance of the country and the national pride and expected the revival of the Chinese language literature of Korea. One of the examples is his effort to make Confucius' birthday a holiday.

본고에서는 『권우일기』의 내용을 알아보면서 권우의 의식지향에 대해서 고찰해보았다. 이를 증명하기 위하여 필자는 『권우일기』에 나타난 권우의 정치와 역사의식과 『권우일기』에 나타난 권우 주변 人士의 일화와 세태로 나누어 서술하였다. 권우는 경기도 연천지역에서 출생하여 가학으로 한문을 터득하였고, 이어 嵋左 鄭炁, 偶丁 林圭를 스승으로 모시고 한문을 연구하였다. 권우는 한시의 귀재로 ‘관수회’ 시단을 만들어 운영하였으며, 민족문화추진회의 번역사업과 지곡서당에서의 한문강의, 그리고 유도회 한문연수원 개설 및 장학생반 선발과 교육 등의 업적을 남겼다. 권우의 정치와 역사의식에서는 일기에 서술된 역사적 사실을 중심으로 권우가 그 사건을 어떻게 바라보고 서술하였는가에 초점을 맞추어 살펴보았다. 권우는 박정희 정권에 대해서는 자유 민주주의가 잃어가고 있음을 비판하면서 미국 닉슨대통력의 탄핵을 보며 부러워했다. 그리고 당시 정치인들은 믿을 사람이 못됨을 밝히고 있다. 그런데 권우는 박정희 대통령 서거 후부터는 정부에 대한 비판이 많이 줄어든다. 뿐만 아니라 전두환 정권에 대해서는 좋은 평가를 하고 있다. 1980년대가 되면서 권우는 일명 친정부 보수화 경향을 보인다고 할 수 있다. 이는 권우가 연세가 들어가면서 현재에 안주하고 기득권을 유지하려는 것에서 나오는 행동이 아닐까 추측해본다. 권우 주변 人士의 일화와 세태에서는 한학자, 독립운동가, 친구, 정치인 등 다양한 부류의 사람들의 일화를 서술하고 있다. 이는 권우가 많은 분야의 분들과 친분이 있었다는 방증이기도 하다. 그리고 그들의 일화를 통해서 일반인들에게 던지는 메시지는 국가와 민족을 생각하고 한문문화의 부흥을 기대하고 있다는 결론을 지을 수 있다.
