Jeungsangyo’s viewpoints of life and death(生死觀) in early korean modern times is considered to have been formed from a combination of three established religions: Buddhism(佛敎), Confucianism(儒敎), Taoism(道敎). In particular, the existence of an ideal world-to-come called the heaven-after(後天) implies that human being’s quests for immortality(不老不死) can be achieved after becoming hermit(神仙), which is close to the idea of Taism. Japanese Tenrikyo holds creative viewpoints of life and death, merging the ideas of pure land buddhism and folk beliefs. Tenrikyo defines the aspects of reductive existence who pass away for rebirth(出直) as the realities of ideal. The similarity between these two religions is that both religions aim at realization of the world of the existence equal to hermit神仙 or the world of harmonic life of god and human being(神人和樂). The difference between two religions is about different viewpoints about the reality of existence in new time-space. To be specific, Jeungsangyo assumes independent and self-reliant reality while Tenrikyo supposes dependent and evolved existence.

근대기 한국의 증산교에서 보이는 生死觀은 기성종교인 儒敎와 佛敎, 그리고 道敎와의 습합으로 형성된 것으로 판단된다. 이 중에서도 後天이라고 하는 이상세계 도래의 존재성은 인간이 不老不死의 神仙이 되는 것으로 도교적인 것에 가깝다고 할 수 있다. 일본의 천리교는 정토불교와 민간신앙의 습합과 함께 독창적인 생사관을 보인다. 천리교는 ‘出直’이라고 하는 환원적인 존재의 양상을 이상세계의 실재성으로 규정한다. 두 종교의 유사상은 神仙과 대등한 존재의 세계 혹은 神人和樂의 세계의 구현을 지향하고 있다는 것이다. 두 종교의 상이성은 이상세계라는 새로운 시공간에서의 존재의 실재성에 관한 것으로, 독립적이고 자립적 실재성을 말하는 증산교와 의존적이면서 진화된 존재성에 대한 천리교의 차이를 볼 수 있다.
