Whenever I present my article or review of someone’s work on preaching recently, the voices that we need to deal with the Spirit’s role in preaching are often raised among the colleagues and participants. Korean Society of Evangelical Practical Theology, founded in 1997, published the Journal of Gospel and Practical Theology for last 17 years on various topics in practical theology. It is known that 23 out of 473 articles have ‘the Spirit’ on their title and only two of 23 are on preaching by keyword searching. Although there are more articles on the Spirit in contents, yet we have to recognize the lack of intensive study on this issue in our society(KEPT). It is fact that our effort has not been enough to study it theoretically because we take it for granted in our church and preaching. In today that has been full of criticisms ever since on artificial trials in ministry and preaching, it is nothing new but meaningful to study on preacher’s identity and the Spirit’s role in preaching. Preachers come out of the congregation and go into the words of God. Preachers stand before the congregation with the words and walk into the world with the congregation. The Spirit works in every stage of this cycle by calling, illuminating, and anointing the preachers. The Spirit makes preachers and congregations the words community. Someone says that preachers on the pulpit have to be aware of God listening to his or her sermon. At the same time preachers have to listen to God’s voice in his or her preaching. Such attitude preachers show before God and under the Words makes them holy, honest and be captured by the Spirit.

최근 설교관련 논문을 발표하거나 논평할 때마다‘설교에 있어서 성령의 역 할’에 대한 논의가 필요하다는 주장이 동료학자들과 참가자들 사이에서 자주 청취된다. 1997년 설립된 한국복음주의실천신학회는 2000년부터 지난 17년 간 실천신학분야에 대한 다양한 연구물을 학술지「복음과 실천신학」에 담아 발간해왔다. ‘성령’이라는 키워드로 검색하면 전체 473편의 논문 중 23편의 논문이 검색되는데 이 중 제목에 성령을 다룬 설교학 논문은 단 두 편에 불과 하다. 최소한 한국복음주의실천신학회에서 이 분야에 대한 집중된 연구가 부 족했다는 점을 인정하지 않을 수 없다. 이 논의는 교회와 설교의 역사에서 당연시 되었던 문제이다 보니 상대적으 로 학문적인 정리가 미흡했던 것이 사실이다. 목회와 설교전반에서 인위적인 노력에 대한 비판과 자정의 목소리가 커지고 있는 요즘 설교에 있어서 설교자 는 누구이고 성령은 구체적으로 어떻게 역사하는지에 대해 다루는 것은 그러 므로 새롭지는 않으나 의미 있다 하겠다. 회중으로부터 나와 말씀 속으로 들어가고 다시 회중 앞에 선 설교자가 그들 과 함께 세상으로 나아가는 이 사이클은 계속 순환하며 설교자와 회중을 말씀 의 공동체로 만들어 간다. 누군가는 설교자가 강단에 설 때마다 하나님께서 그 의 설교를 듣고 있다고 생각해야 한다고 했는데 그 말에 동의하면서 설교자는 하나님이 그의 설교에서(그가 붙든 본문에서) 친히 설교하시는 음성을 들어야 한다. 그렇게 설교에서 친히 일하시는 하나님 앞에 선 의식, 그의 말씀 아래 선 태도가 설교자에게 필요하고 그것이 설교자를 거룩하게, 정직하게, 성령에 붙 들린바 되게 한다.
