This study is to develop unit symmetry cubic tile with motive of 4 Dancheong patterns, Gorigeum, Modatgeum, Sipjageum and Manjamun and to perform the evaluation of impression with public and group of experts in order to verify their product values. Consequently, the impression of pilot product may characterized with ‘cubic effect’, ‘traditional·Korean’, ‘original·peculiarity’. This may be the result which indirectly proves that decorative beauty of Dancheong pattern, the basic goal of developing pilot product is utterly projected as the attributes of product. Further, interest or preference for pilot product could be confirmed through satisfaction, intention to purchase, intention to recommend. Especially, the preference of middle aged class rather than youth, female rather than male, public rather than experts group is higher. In conclusion, it was suggested that general women in their 30-50s' could be the main customer of pilot product. Meanwhile, it is quite desirable to clearly find the matters to be improved in relation to pilot product, namely, color, maintenance, shape and cubic effect, problem in construction. It is considered that presenting the guideline on how to set design direction including the adjustment of cubic sense, the characteristics and merit of pilot product would be the fundamental to improve product power.

본 연구는 전통문양의 현대적 계승·발전이라는 명제를 두고 평면 단청문양의 아름다움을 입체적인 형상으로 재구성한 입체타일의 시제품을 개발, 청소년 활동 공간 및 시설에 적용할 수 있는지 그 가능성을 검토한 것이다. 연구는 장식타일에 대한 이론적 고찰과 시제품 개발, 그리고 인상평가 순으로 이어졌다. 시제품 개발은 단청문양의 선정과 구성형식을 응용한 3D모델링과 3D프린팅, 몰딩과 소성작업 등의 과정을 거쳤고, 인상평가는 온·오프라인 설문조사를 통해 이루어졌다. 결과, 시제품의 인상은 ‘입체감’, ‘전통적·한국적’, ‘독창적·독특함’ 등으로 요약되며, 이는 시제품 개발 목표에서 언급했던 단청문양의 형식미가 제품의 특징으로 잘 구현되었다는 점을 방증하는 결과를 얻었다. 다만, 시제품에 대한 호감도가 10-20대의 젊은 층보다 30-50대의 중·장년층에게서 상대적으로 높게 나타나 결과적으로 청소년들에게 전통문화에 대한 관심을 증진시키기 위해서는 ‘젊은 층에게 어필할 수 있는 디자인’이라는 측면에 더욱 세심하게 검토가 필요하다는 점을 시사했다. 다행스럽게도 문제의 핵심이 형태보다는 색상에 있다는 점으로 시제품이 황토로 제작된 점을 감안하면 색상이 제한적일 수밖에 없었고 따라서 색상문제를 보완한다면 제품의 질 개선이 이루어질 가능성이 높다고 사료된다.
