The Korean Church has received much criticism for its separation between faith and application, lacking in love and service toward the society. As the Church becomes less and less capable of exercising its public responsibility and more and more privatized and irrelevant in communication with the society, the individualistic tendencies of Christians and the politics within the Church are becoming a greater problem. In order to overcome the crisis the Korean Church faces, the recovery of the Church’s public responsibility is critical. The Korean Church is experiencing the failure of public education as well as Church education, and this is a critical task in the Church’s public responsibility. The overexpansion of private education and an education system centered upon the college entrance exam are not only the main causes of the failure of public education in Korea but also threats to Church education. The Korean Church, for the most part, has lost the next generation, and Church education is coming to a halt. The Korean Church must raise up the parents-who are at the center of both public education and Church education-to lead the restoration of education in Korea. The Church must assist the Christian parents to acquire a firm biblical parental role and identity, and fulfill their public responsibility as Christians by implementing Christian parenting and Christian education in the secular world. The purpose of this research is to find and to emphasize the importance of the primary role in Christian parenting and Church education as a solution in recovering the Korean Church’s public responsibility. To do this, first, this research takes a look at the Church’s publicity and its public responsibility, and discusses how the Church can perform its public responsibility to restore the failures of both public education and Church education. This research suggests the role of Christian parents in restoring education in three parts: an establishment of Christian identity, a dialogue and a revolutionary application, and the formation of fellowship/community among Christian parents.

한국교회는 사회를 향한 나눔과 섬김이 부족할 뿐만 아니라 신앙과 실천의 분리라는 비판을 받고 있다. 교회가 사회에서 공적인 책임을 수행하지 못하고 점차 사사화(私事化, privatization)되어 가고 사회와의 소통이 단절되어 어려움이 발생하며 신앙의 개인주의적 경향과 교회의 정치 세력화가 문제가 되고 있다. 현재 한국교회가 직면한 위기와 도전을 극복하기 위한 방안으로 교회의 공적 책임 회복이 절실히 요청된다. 특별히 공교육의 붕괴와 교회교육의 위기를 함께 경험하고 있는 한국교회를 향한 공적 책임 역시 중요한 과제로 대두된다. 사교육 팽창과 입시위주의 교육으로 인한 공교육의 위기는 학교교육의 붕괴뿐만 아니라 기독교교육의 자리마저 위협하고 있다. 이와 함께 한국교회는 다음세대의 성장이 멈춘 교회교육의 위기 또한 당면하고 있다. 교회는 공교육과 교회교육의 중심에 있는 기독 학부모들을 교육 회복의 주체로 세워야 한다. 교회는기독 학부모들이 기독교적인 자녀교육관을 가지고 가정과 교회와 학교에서 중심적인 역할을 할 수 있도록 도와야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 교육의 영역에서 한국교회의 공적 책임 회복을 위해기독 학부모들이 교육회복의 주체가 되어야 함을 밝히고, 기독 학부모로서의 바른 정체성을 찾고 그들의 삶의 영역에서 공적인 역할을 하도록 돕는데 있다. 이를 위하여 먼저 교회의 공공성과 공적 책임에 대해 살펴보고 공교육과 교회교육의 위기에 선 한국교회가 어떻게 교육의 회복을 위한 공적책임을 수행할 수 있을지에 대해 논의한다. 마지막으로 교육 회복의 주체로서 기독 학부모의 역할을 기독교적 정체성 확립, 대화와 변혁적 실천, 기독 학부모 공동체 형성 차원으로 나누어서 제시하였다.
