This study aims to investigate the implications of Mozi’s universal love on multicultural human right education. Today, the multicultural human rights education in Korea has been focused only at multicultural understanding education; the study thus emphasizes the importance of multicultural human rights education to guarantee the human rights of immigrants. Accordingly this paper recommends the implications of Mozi’s universal love to Multicultural human rights Education. Because Mozi’s universal love describes equal love for others, love for all people regardless of blood and class. Mozi’s fundamental Principles for loving all are defined as follows; ‘mutual love and mutual benefit’, ‘love others like me’, ‘Regard others as oneself’. Thus Mozi’s “Universal Love” is based on equality, anti-discrimination, protection for human rights can contribute to building the theoretical framework for multicultural human rights education.

본 연구는 묵자(墨子)의 겸애(兼愛)사상에 함의된 다문화 인권교육에 대해서 연구하였다. 최근다문화 교육은 문화 이해를 통해 차이를 존중하는 것에 초점이 맞추어져 있다. 그러나 차별의 문제, 차이를 인정하는 문화이해중심교육의 다문화교육은 오히려 이주민에 대한 낙인 효과만 낳기때문에 보편적 인권을 증진하고 실천하기 위한 다문화 인권교육이 필요하다. 이를 위해 타인에 대한 평등한 사랑, 혈연과 계급을 떠난 박애사상을 주장한 묵자의 ‘겸애’사상이 다문화 인권교육에 주는 함의를 모색한다. 묵자는 서로가 모두 사랑하고 서로 이롭게 해나간다는 ‘겸상애 교상리(兼相愛交相利)’를 제시하며 겸애의 실천 방법으로 자기를 사랑하듯이 남을 사랑하라는 ‘시인여기(視人如己)’를 주장하며 천하에 남이란 없다는 ‘천하무인(天下無人)’을 제시했다. 이러한 묵자 겸애사상을 통해 평등, 반차별, 인권존중 등의 다문화 인권교육적 요소를 찾을 수 있다는 점에서 다문화 인권교육적 토대를 마련하는 데 이론적 기초가 될 수 있을 것이다.
