Study of Goguryeo history have been ongoing with various themes. For the study, many chinese official history chronicles were used. Many people, however, have focused on Goguryeo part which was included in chinese official history chronicles. That is why we did not care much on 《Tongdian》〈Bianfangdian〉. This book’s composition is different from other chinese chronicles so articles were written flexible by the passage of time. Also articles’ arrangement and its’ contents are worthy of notice. Especially 《Tongdian》〈Bianfangdian〉has some Goguryeo’s geographic articles which only can be found in 《Tongdian》〈Bianfangdian〉, so it is high in scarcity. That articles can be used importantly when we study on the time about transfer of the capital and also on the location of Goguryeo’s castle town. Furthermore 《Tongdian》had been compiled before 《JiuTangshu》and 《XinTangshu》so its’ value is high. Therefore 《Tongdian》must be used to study of Goguryeo history.

종래에 高句麗史 연구는 다양한 주제로 진행되어 왔으며 그에 대한 사료로써 중국의 正史들이 활용되었다. 그러나 정사들이 내포하고 있는 고구려열전에 열중한 나머지 『通典』의 「邊防典」 高句麗 條는 크게 주목받지 못하였다. 그러나 『通典』은 그 구성에 있어 중국 정사들과 달리 시간의 흐름에 따라 유연하게 기록되어 있을 뿐만 아니라, 기사들의 배치나 내용에 있어서 주목해야 할 부분도 많은 史書이다. 특히 고구려의 지리와 관련한 기사에서 다른 사료에는 없는 내용이 있다. 그 기사들은 평양성 천도의 시점과 그 위치의 연구에 있어서 중요하게 활용할 수 있는 내용이다. 더욱이 『通典』은 고구려의 멸망 이후 『舊唐書』나 『新唐書』보다 먼저 편찬된 사서이므로 그 사료적 가치가 높다. 따라서 『通典』은 고구려 연구에 있어서 반드시 활용해야 할 자료이다.
