This paper, there is a purpose in order to analyze the appearance description of persons appearing in the . 이 논문은 17세기 중후반에 창작된 국문 장편소설 <소현성록>에 나타난 외모묘사의 양상과 특징을 분석하는 데 목표를 두고 있다. <소현성록> 등장인물에 대한 외모묘사 어구들을 추출하여 신체 부분별로 나누고 등장인물의 외모와 생김새를 비교해 봄으로써 남녀 외모묘사의 공통점과 차이점을 구분하였다. 남녀 공통으로 특정 부위가 묘사되고 있으나 남녀 차이가 나타나는 것, 묘사에 있어 남녀 차이가 나지 않는 것 그리고, 묘사에 있어 한쪽의 성에만 주도적으로 나타나는 것으로 분류하였다. 골격, 기질, 풍채, 이마, 눈썹, 미우, 눈, 귀밑은 묘사에 있어 남녀 차이가 나타났고, 피부, 얼굴, 양볼, 어깨 묘사는 남녀 차이가 나지 않지 않았다. 그리고 머리, 입술, 허리, 신장은 여성에게만 주도적으로 묘사가 나타나고 있었다. 다음으로는 외모묘사에 사용된 비유어들을 추출하여 <소현성록> 인물 묘사의 특징을 분석했다. 첫째, 등장인물의 상호 관계에 따라 신체 전체의 비유도 달리 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었고, 조선 후기 소설들과 달리 <소현성록>에서는 사물에 대한 비유나 전고의 인물을 거의 빗대어 사용하지 않았으며, 손에 대한 비유도 없었다. 둘째, <소현성록>에서는 꽃과 일월성신과 같은 자연물의 비유를 통해 구체적으로 인물의 변별 자질을 제시하고 이를 반영하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 요컨대, 이 논문은 등장인물의 외모와 생김새를 구체적으로, 경험적으로 살핌으로써 <소현성록>의 묘사의 양상과 특징을 고찰함으로 17세기 중후반의 장편소설의 미의식을 탐색하는 기반을 마련하고 있다.
