The purpose of this study is to examine the role of the tutor in “mentoring for the Multicultural students” who have a multicultural background or are North Korean refugees. Also, it aims to contrive a solution in the reinforcement of the tutor's ability within the mentoring program. Inha University, located in Incheon, utilizes graduate students who major in multicultural education as tutors to perform the mentoring project aimed for students who have a multicultural background or are North Korean refugees. In order to achieve the goal of this study, we set up the following two questions as our research problems: 1) What is the rightful role and capacity of a tutor? and 2) How can the system be improved to reinforce the tutor's capacity? According to the results, the role of the tutor is to vitalized the mentoring relationship between the manager and mentor. The tutor should support the tasks of the manager by confirming and passing on the information necessary for managing the system, keeping track of the mentor's operation performance, and encouraging the mentor's active participation. In short, tutors can provide help in the difficulties that occur to mentors in the process of studying with and giving mental guidance to the mentees and in the relationship between the mentees and their teachers at school. Therefore, the capacities needed for tutors to perform such roles are leadership as a manager, ability as a mentor, the ability to control conflicts, self-efficacy and responsibility. We discovered that tutors were going through diverse difficulties such as lack of perception of their roles as tutors, uncertainty of their capacities, absence of long-term systematic information on the progress of the mentoring project, and problems in the relationship with mentors. As a result, to strengthen the tutor's capabilities, the following actions are necessary: orientation on the tutor's role, recognition of the tutor's role to mentors, arrangement of a manual on the role of the tutor, provision of long-term systematic mentoring information, and the exchange of information through periodic meetings.

본 연구는 다문화학생 멘토링에서 멘토의 지원을 위해 만들어진 “튜터”의 역할에 대하여 알아보고, 멘토링 프로그램 내에서 튜터의 역량과 그 역량을 강화할 수 있는 방안을 파악하는데 그 목적이 있다. 인천에 소재한 I대학교에서는 다문화학생 멘토링에 참여하면서 다문화교육전공의 석⋅박사과정에 있는 대학원생을 ‘튜터’로 활용하고 있다. 연구결과에 의하면, 튜터들은 관리자와 멘토 사이에서 시스템을 활성화시키는 역할을 한다. 튜터는 관리자와의 관계에서 시스템 관리에 필요한 정보 전달과 전달 사항 확인 및 멘토의 활동 실적 수집과 멘토의 멘토링 활동 독려 등 관리자의 일을 도와주는 역할을 한다. 또한 튜터는 멘토와의 관계에서 관리자로서의 역할과 동시에 멘토의 멘토로서의 역할을 한다. 즉, 멘토들이 멘티들과의 학습 및 정서적 지도 활동 시에 겪는 어려움, 또는 학교 교사와의 관계 등에 도움을 주고 있다. 그렇지만 튜터들은 자신의 역할에 관한 인식부족, 자신의 역량에 대한 불안감, 사업의 진행에 대한 장기적⋅체계적인 정보 부재, 멘토와의 관계에서 오는 문제 등 다양한 어려움을 격고 있었다. 튜터들이 역할을 수행하는데 필요한 역량으로는 관리자로서의 리더쉽, 멘토로서의 역량, 갈등조정 능력, 그리고 자기효능감 및 책임감 등이 필요하다. 튜터의 역량을 강화시키기 위해서는 튜터의 역할에 대한 사전교육 실시, 멘토들에게 튜터의 역할 인식시키기, 튜터의 역할에 대한 매뉴얼 마련, 장기적⋅체계적인 멘토링 정보 제공, 주기적인 미팅을 통한 정보 교류 등을 마련할 필요가 있다.
