As well as so-called “Canaan Saints” phenomenon, the breakaway of the next generation and unilateral communication issue have been deepening the sense of urgency about the sustainability of church education. Church education, however, has consistently been negligent to the participatory culture and everyday lives of the next generation, paying no attention to educational interactions, and blind to the emotional aspects of a person. To design sustainable learning environments for the next generation, this study is focused on: spreadability of network culture; interactivity of flipped learning; comprehensiveness of learning environments informed by brain-based learning; and individualization and personalization learning in the pursuit of a common goal. In addition, a survey is conducted in order to support them, targeting the next generation of domestic churches and overseas Korean churches(N=1,200). According to the results, design directions for sustainable learning environments are as follow. Firstly, a spreadable learning environment that can exceed the spatiotemporal limits of Sunday church and provide various kinds of windows onto the Word for students should be designed. Such an environment can provide the opportunity for students, who have degraded into passivity, to become active participants, as well as the opportunity to expand Christian education. Secondly, a mutual learning environment should be designed to enable learning from dynamic interactions. This is mandatory to ensure the sustainability of Christian education for the relationship-driven next generation. Thirdly, a comprehensive learning environment should be designed that is inclusive of sensory, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects. Such an environment can be an opportunity to nurture students in the next generation, who have been deprived of dynamism in the context of cognition-biased education, as practical believers. Lastly, a universal learning environment should be designed that can embrace cognitive differences among individuals as well as emotional personalization. Universal design is an educational mission that the church must assume in carrying the Good news to all human beings. This study takes a micro-level approach to search for crisis factors and solutions in regard to the next generation from within the concept of Sunday school; it is expected to contribute to the design of sustainable learning environments for the next generation.

가나안 성도 현상을 비롯한 다음세대 이탈과 일방적 소통의 문제는 교회교육의 지속가능성에 위기의식을 심화시키고 있다. 그러나 교회교육은다음세대의 참여적 문화나 일상을 간과하고, 교육적 상호작용을 소홀히 하며, 인간의 정서적 측면을 배제해 왔다. 이 연구는 다음세대를 위한 지속가능한 학습 환경을 설계하기 위해 네트워크 문화의 확산성과 플립러닝의 상호작용성, 뇌 기반 학습이 제안하는 학습 환경의 포괄성에 대해 탐색하였고, 공통적으로 지향하는 개별화 및 개인화 학습에 주목하였다. 또한 학제적 탐색을 실증적으로 뒷받침하기 위해 국내교회 및 해외한인교회 다음세대를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다(N=1.200). 대화 결과에 따른 지속가능한 학습 환경의 설계 방향은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주일과 교회라는 시·공간적 한계를 넘어 다양한 말씀의 창을 대면할 수 있도록 ‘확산적 학습 환경’을 설계해야 한다. 이는 수동적 수용자로 전락한 다음세대를 적극적 참여자로 변화시키고, 기독교교육의 외연을확장시키는 계기가 될 수 있다. 둘째, 가르칠 내용을 줄이고 역동적 상호작용을 통해 함께 배울 수 있도록 ‘상호적 학습 환경’을 설계해야 한다. 이는관계를 열망하는 다음세대의 신앙교육을 지속가능하게 해주는 필수요건일수 있다. 셋째, 감각 및 인지적 환경을 넘어 정서 및 사회적 환경을 고려하는 ‘포괄적 학습 환경’을 설계해야 한다. 이는 인지 편향적 교육 속에서 생기를 잃은 다음세대를 실천적 신앙인으로 양육하는 기회가 될 수 있다. 마지막으로 다음세대의 인지적 개인차와 정서적 개인화를 포용하는 ‘보편적학습 환경’을 설계해야 한다. 이는 모든 사람을 부르시는 복음을 담지한 교회가 수행해야 할 교육적 사명이기도 하다. 이 연구는 다음세대의 위기 요인과 해결책을 교회학교 내부에서 찾고자 한 미시적 접근이나, 다음세대를 위한 지속가능한 학습 환경을 설계하는데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.
