Recognizing the importance of equipping future secondary school teachers with competency for character education, practical work, and middle-school student advisement, this study focused on identifying alternatives to foster teachers with practical skills and desired characteristics and teachers who know how to utilize differentiated pedagogy tailored to middle and high school students. To achieve the goal of the study, the study clarified the constructs of characters, practical skills, and advising capacity of middle school students drawing on relevant literature and systematically analyzed the current status and needs of teacher education. Major findings are as follows. Faculty members at college of education, teachers, and students all replied that current teacher education system is doing a moderate level of job. However, they were found to have a positive perspective on operating specialized teacher education systems. With regard to the effectiveness of current teacher education system, respondents revealed their positive opinion on the level of subject knowledge expertise, while negative on side of characteristics as a teacher, practical skill, and advisement of middle-school students. Teachers were found to acknowledge the importance of examining pre-teachers’ qualification with regard to characteristics, the quality of practicum experience, and completing the course works related to student advising. The study further provided teacher education constituents with policy suggestions based on the resultant findings.

이 연구는 교사의 인성과 실무능력, 중학생 지도능력의 강화가 필요하다는 문제의식을 바탕으로, 교사양성기관에서의 교육을 통해 인성, 실무능력, 고등학교와 중학교 특성에 맞는 교육을 담당할 수 있는 역량을 갖춘 교사를 양성하기 위한 방안을 도출하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 선행연구를 통하여 교사의 인성, 실무능력, 중학교 지도능력의 개념을 확인하고, 다양한 이해관계자를 대상으로 교사양성교육의 실태와 요구를 체계적으로 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 현행 교원양성체제의 적절성에 대해 교사, 교수, 학생 집단 모두 보통 수준으로 인식하고 있었으나, 목적형 교원양성기관의 필요성에 대해서 매우 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었다. 또한, 현행 교원양성교육과정의 효과성에 대해서는 교과 전문성에 대해서만 다소 긍정적으로 인식하였고, 교사로서의 인성, 실무능력, 중학교 지도능력이 효과적으로 길러지는가에 대해서는 대체로 부정적이었다. 교직 후보자의 인성 검증, 교육실습을 통한 실무 전반 경험, 생활지도 관련 과목의 이수의 필요성에 대하여 공감을 나타냈고, 세 집단 중 교사 집단에서 가장 긍정적이었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 교사양성교육에 대한 시사점과 구체적인 방안을 제시하였다.
