This study was conducted with the aim of understanding Leessihyomunrok one step further from the previous research, which concluded the theme of the text ‘filial piety of protagonist Leemyunghyun’. Leessihyomunrok can be divided into the narrative of Leemyunghyun and his second son, Leejaehee. The first half of the work was mainly about the conflict between Leemyunghyun and his mother, Yubuin. Yubuin had been described as a person with real and own motives rather than inherently wicked. Also, the work showed a positive yet negative perspective for Leemyunghyun’s extreme filial piety. The second half of the work made Leejaehee key figures, who often rejected his father’s commands but decisively contributed to the prosperity of the family. Despite the ugly looks and ridiculous behavior, Leejaehee’s wife Wonsi got recognized as filial daughter-in-law for adults and as lovely wife for husband. Leessihyomunrok is a work with a multi-layered narrative consciousness in that it consists of a narrative of Leemyunghyun which weakened the structure of conflict between good and evil in the traditional filial piety story, and of a narrative of Leejaehee which showed a critical attitude towards traditional filial son and daughter-in-law.

본 연구는 <이씨효문록>의 주제를 ‘효’로 파악한 기존 논의를 출발점으로 삼아 <이씨효문록>에 대한 한 단계 심화된 이해를 목표로 수행되었다. <이씨효문록>은 이명현의 서사와 이재희의 서사 두 부분으로 나눌 수 있다. 이명현의 서사는 유부인과 이명현의 ‘악모선자(惡母善子)’형 갈등구조를 중심으로 한다. 그러나 유부인은 천성적 악인이라기보다는 나름의 현실적인 동기를 지닌 인물로 형상화되어 있었으며, 이명현의 효행에 대해서는 한편 감탄하면서도 이를 무정한 행동으로 여기는 등 선인과 악인에 대한 이분법적 시선이 약화되어 있었다. <이씨효문록>의 후반부는 전반부와 달리 손윗사람의 명에 곧잘 항거했음에도 불구하고 가문의 번영에 결정적으로 기여한 이재희를 주인공으로 삼았다. 또 그의 부인 원씨는 추한 외모와 우스꽝스러운 행동에도 불구하고 어른들에게 효부로 인정받고 남편에게도 사랑받는다. <이씨효문록>은 전통적인 효행담의 선악구도를 약화시킨 이명현의 서사와, 기존의 효자, 효부 형상에 대한 비판적 시선을 드러낸 이재희의 서사로 이루어져 있다는 점에서 ‘효’에 대해 다층적인 서술의식을 지닌 작품으로 평가할 수 있다.
