This study is conducted to calculate base line data needed to develop curriculum for the students who major in maritime police science, which is expected to give them critical thinking. Thus, we estimated the level of their critical thinking and conducted a survey and analyzed the results. The results of analysis as follows. First, analyzing their critical thinking ability, the lower years (including the freshmen and sophomore) have the higher cogitative ability than the upper year (including the junior and senior) and female students have the higher cogitative ability than male students. Second, analyzing their critical thinking disposition, it shows the lower years (including the freshmen and sophomore) have the higher cogitative ability than the upper year (including the junior and senior). Third, Critical thinking level of students who major in maritime police science is higher than that of students who major in police Science. Fourth, when viewed the relationship between critical thinking ability and critical thinking disposition, it has a positive relationship. So, we make a suggestion based on the above results. Critical cogitative ability is essential for maritime police science and is imperative for the students who major in maritime police science. Besides, when students take courses concerned with maritime police science, that their thinking ability is improved can be seen. Accordingly, it is desirable that we should establish courses which are related with critical thinking like “the activity of critical thinking maritime police and maritime police science”.

이 연구는 해양경찰학을 전공하는 대학생들에게 비판적 사고를 증진시키기 위한교육과정을 개발하는데 필요한 기초자료의 산출을 위하여 현재의 비판적 사고에 관한 실증적 연구를 수행한 것이다. 이들의 비판적 사고수준을 측정하였는데, 비판적사고를 비판적 사고능력과 비판적 사고성향으로 구분하여 설문조사하고, 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 비판적 사고력을 분석한 결과 학년간 집단의 차이에서는 1・2학년인 저학년이 3・4학년인 고학년보다 비판적 사고력이 더욱 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 성별에서는 여학생이 남학생보다 비판적 사고력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 비판적 사고성향을 분석한 결과 역시 비판적 사고력과 같이 1・2학년인 저학년이 3・4학년인 고학년보다 더욱 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 이와 같은 해양경찰학 전공 대학생의 비판적 사고수준은 일반 경찰학 전공대학생의 조사 결과보다 대체적으로 점수가 높게 나왔다. 넷째, 비판적 사고력과 비판적 사고성향 간의 상관관계는 전체적으로 비판적 사고성향과 비판적 사고력이 정(+)의 관계를 나타내고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 다음과 같이 제언한다. 비판적 사고가 해양경찰에게 필수불가결한 요소이며, 특히 예비 해양경찰인 해양경찰학 전공 대학생에게도 필요한 요소이다. 한편 이는 관련 교과목을 수강했을 때 함양된다는 여러 연구 결과가 있는 것을 감안할 때, 해양경찰학 전공 교과목에 ‘해양경찰활동과 비판적 사고’ 또는 ‘해양경찰철학’ 등과 같은 비판적 사고 관련 교과목을 개설하는 것이 바람직하다.
