This research is to analize the human model and nature of Kaoru by studying the expression structure presented in the beginning of 3rd chapter of 󰡔Ｔhe Tale of Ｇenji󰡕. Ostensibly, Kaoru is a son of Hikaru Genji but in the reality, he is an unexpected son of secret love affair between Kashawagi and Onnasannomiya who is a wife of Genji. The loves between Kaoru and women of Uji all ended up by either death or running away of woman and the purpose of this study is to analyze the reason for failure based on the characteristic called ‘Mame’ of Kaoru who is a main male character in Monogatari. ‘Sawarabi’ and ’Yadorigi’ were mainly studied as they unfold the story of Nakanokimi in which the characteristic of ‘Mame’ is described. In addition, this research assumed that the conflict between consciousness and physical desire of main character is projected in the floral scent left on the cloth of female character by addressing the issue of floral scent based on the relationship and main character described in Nakanokimi story. Also, it was assumed that floral scent of Kaoru helps to form the image of Kaoru as a main character in the expression structure of Monogatari and characteristic of Kaoru is originated originated from ‘positivity’ and ‘negativity’ within the Monogatari. In addition, ‘Mamebito’ used to Kaoru seems to be the ‘Mamebito’ loving only one woman as its meaning is ambiguous in the 3rd chapter, Monogatari but actually, Kaoru is the character showing ‘negativity’ of Monokatari as he continuously seeks for new love and is ended up having neither love nor religious mind.
