This paper has focused on expressing intention so-called modality with thepurpose of clarifying by conducting through analysis with Korean (contrastiveanalysis) on forms and conditions of the characteristics of Japanese conditionalexpressions which have various forms, and the way of talking of a speaker. A conditional sentence can be divided into NOBETATE(statement) modality of[if an antecedent clause is valid, the following clause is realized] and executionmodality of [if an antecedent clause is valid, realize the following clause]. Japanese[baㆍtoㆍtara] is appeared in the sentence of NOBETATE(statement) modality andcorresponds to Korean forms [-myeon]ㆍ[-damyeon]. These forms have a differentspoken intention of antecedent and following clauses. [ba] is logical and inevitableand mainly represents an invariant condition. [tara], even for propositional contentdomain, is mostly appeared in one-off cause and effect sentence by specific andindividual characteristics. Since [to] is a form connoting time-based character, ithas a strong tendency to present nonhypothetical conditional expressions withrational and experiential and warning characters. In case of Korean forms such as[-myeon] and [-damyeon] in accord with Japanese forms, a supposition is anecessary form, thereby corresponding to [baㆍtoㆍtara] which representshypothetical conditional expression. [-myeon], on the other hand, is neutral to theinvariant condition of conjunction and is different from Japanese in terms of notinvolving in propositional content.
