This study was to explore the implications for graduate studies, engaging experiences targeting middle-aged women educated career interruption. Participation in learning experiences was investigating whether any changes in their lives to qualitative research methods. Selected participants were highly educated middle-aged women over 10 years interrupted career after marriage. While the current consultation activities were subject to in-depth interviews with five people enrolled in a graduate or of graduate family counseling. This study analyzed whether the meaning of what is changing through learning experiences with participation of graduate studies. The results were as follows. First, the motives of career interruption graduated studies in middle-aged women have made to the need to begin graduate studies for learning through their own reflection looking back at the life of a housewife. Second, marriaged midlife crisis turned into a transformational life to overcome the pleasure of graduate studies. Third, they wished as a counselor expertise in career transition to employment and social life to give back to society for the transformative life. This research based on these findings is that in reality the economic power of women becoming increasingly important in the aging society, to suggest that the need for life-long learning study program for professional career development considering the career structure and development of middle-aged women is significant aspects.

본 연구는 고학력 경력단절 중년여성의 대학원 학습 참여 경험에 대한 의미를 질 적 연구방법을 선택하여 학습참여 경험이 그들의 삶에 어떤 변화를 가져왔는지 탐색 해보고자 하는 것이었다. 참여자 선정은 결혼 후 10년 이상 경력 단절된 고학력 중년 여성으로, 현재 상담활동을 하면서 가족상담 대학원에 진학중이거나 졸업한 5명을 대 상으로 심층면접을 하였다. 대학원 학습의 동기는 무엇인지와 학습참여 경험을 통해 어떠한 변화가 있었는지에 대한 의미를 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 경력단절 중년여성의 대학원 학습의 동기는 전업주부의 삶에서 자신을 돌아보는 성 찰을 통해 배움에 대한 필요성으로 대학원 학습을 시작하였다. 둘째, 중년기의 결혼 생활의 위기를 대학원 학습의 즐거움으로 극복하는 전환적 삶으로 나타났다. 셋째 상 담전문가로서 전문성을 취업으로의 경력전환과 사회에 환원하여 나눔을 실천하는 전 환적 삶을 실천하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 본 연구는 고령사회에서 여 성의 경제력이 더욱 중요해지고 있는 현실에서 중년여성의 생애구조와 발달적 측면 을 고려한 전문적인 경력개발을 위한 평생학습 프로그램 연구를 해야 할 필요성이 있음을 제안하는데 의의가 있다.
