The purpose of this study speaks what consciousness development process of transpersonal psychology demands for holistic death education, has remedy for improve them by critical review of existing death education on the basis of its demand condition. As a result, I arrived at following three improve points through critical review of existing death education. First, if goals for death education set built on consciousness development process of transpersonal psychology, can set an all-inclusive goal of whole, immanent, relational expansion, transcendence. So, holistic death education can improve lower-dimensional aims of existing death education. Second, when select contents for death education, contents must includes four levels. And contents for each four levels ensure internal stability. Also, its organization has with cyclical and creative growth. Third, if goals for death education set built on consciousness development process of transpersonal psychology, can lead active participation from student by them to have stern discipline, and can full use of methods as transcendental experience, contemplation. So, holistic death education can improve expressive form of language and sign, use visual symbol and image of existing death education. Consequentially, I propose that will develop and apply on death education programs based on consciousness development process of transpersonal psychology and it apply to all kinds of death education. And I propose that will make exhaustive study into its effectiveness verification.

이 연구는 자아초월심리학의 의식발달과정에 이론적 토대를 두고 기존의 죽음교육과정을 비판적으로 검토함으로써 홀리스틱한 관점에서의 죽음교육을 위한 개선방안을 추출하는데 목적을 두고 수행되었다. 연구의 결과 죽음교육과정 구성의 토대를 자아초월심리학의 의식발달단계와 구체적 내용 및 방법들에 둔다면 다음 세 가지의 이점이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 첫째, 자아초월심리학의 의식발달과정에 기반을 두고 죽음교육의 목적을 설정한다면, 전인성과 내재성, 관계성과 초월성(궁극성)을 모두 포함하는 교육목적을 설정할 수 있기 때문에 기존 죽음교육의 목적이 지니는 지엽성에서 벗어날 수 있다. 둘째, 기존 죽음교육의 내용이 치중하고 있는 전인성 발달뿐 아니라 내재성, 관계성, 초월성의 세 단계에 적합한 교육내용을 내실 있게 제공할 수 있으며, 이 내용들을 순환적이고 발전적이도록 계열화할 수 있다. 셋째, 학습자의 확고한 신념의 확립을 통해 능동적 참여를 보장받을 수 있고 초월체험이나 명상 등 죽음을 자기초월로 승화할 수 있는 방법의 도입이 가능함으로써 논리적 설명이나 상상적 표현에 의존하고 있는 기존 죽음교육방법의 편협성을 보완할 수 있다. 이 연구의 결과를 기반으로 자아초월심리학에 이론적 기반을 둔 죽음교육 프로그램을 개발하고 적용하여 그 효과를 검증하는 후속연구를 제안하였다.
