For postwar Okinawa, it is not so exaggerated that the thought of postwar distinguished with before war, or the beginning of Okinawa’s thinking distinguished from mainland, has all been unleashed by the experience from the battle of Okinawa. ‘The God’s Island’ by Oshiro Tatsuhiro (1968) requires attention for the fact it depicted the various and complex problems inherent in the battle of Okinawa. Its meaningful since this is a novel with the content that can be ‘uncomfortable’ not only for Japanese of Mian land, and Okinawans themselves, but also for us, Koreans, because of such aspects that the relationship with mainland, with the colony, Joseon, with similar position as the minority, conflict among Okinawa residents, and the generations acutely clash each other. In this thesis, three perspectives are to be focused on. First, it will observe the reason why the Novel ‘God’s Island’ had to be an uncomfortable novel not only for all the Okinawans but also for author himself as well, second, see the meaning and possibility of Okinawan’s distinctive reflective thinking shown through confrontation of the main characters, Daminato Shinco and Hutenma Jenshu, and then lastly, will make an issue about the paradox or collision in structure of harm and harmed, and the meaning connoted by paradoxical structure.

전후 오키나와에 있어 전전(戦前)과 구분되는 전후(적) 사유, 혹은 본토와 구분되는 오키나와(적) 사유의 출발은 모두 오키나와 전투의 경험으로부터 촉발되었다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 오시로 다쓰히로의 『신의 섬(神島)』(1968)은 오키나와 전투가 내재한 다양하고 복잡한 문제들을 여과 없이 담고 있는 점에서 주의를 요한다. 무엇보다 그 내용이 일본 본토인들에게도 오키나와인 스스로에게도, 더 나아가 우리 한국인들에게도 ‘불편’할 수 있는 소설이라는 점에서 의미하는 바가 크다고 생각되는데, 이를테면 본토와의 관계뿐만 아니라 마이너리티라는 유사한 입장에 있던 식민지 조선과의 관계, 오키나와 내부 주민들 간의 갈등, 세대 간의 갈등 등이 첨예하게 맞부딪히는 양상들이 그러하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 다음 세 가지 관점에 주목해 보고자 하였다. 우선 (1) 소설 『신의 섬(神島)』이 작가 자신은 물론 본토인, 오키나와인 모두에게 불편한 소설일 수밖에 없는 이유를 살펴보고, (2) 주인공 다미나토 신코와 후텐마 젠슈의 팽팽한 대결구도를 통해 드러나는 오키나와 특유의 성찰적 사유와 그 의의와 가능성을 짚어본 후, (3) 소설 전반에 흐르고 있는 ‘가해’와 ‘피해’ 구도의 역설 혹은 균열, 그리고 그 역설적 구도가 내포하는 의미를 문제 삼고자 하였다.

戦後沖縄における戦前と区別される戦後(的)の思考、あるいは本土と区別されている沖縄(的)思考の出発は、すべて ｢沖縄戦｣の体験から触発されるといっても過言ではない。大城立裕の 『神島』(1968)は、｢沖縄戦｣に関わる複雑な問題をあますことなく含んでいる点で注意を要する。何よりもその内容が日本本土においても沖縄みずからにおいても、さらには、われわれ韓国においても決して ｢愉快｣な小説ではないという点である。それは、例えば本土との関係だけでなく、マイノリティという同様の立場にあった植民地朝鮮との関係、沖縄内部の住民との間の葛藤、世代間の葛藤などが激しくぶつかり合う様相が描かれていることからも、確認することができる。 こうした問題に着目し、本論文では、次の3つの観点を立ててみた。まず(1)小説 『神島』が作者自身はもちろん、本土人、沖縄人すべてに ｢愉快｣な小説ではない理由を考え、(2)主人公⋅田港真行と普天間全秀の対決構図を介してあらわれる沖縄特有の省察的思考と、その意義や可能性を探った後、(3)小説全般に流れる ｢加害｣や ｢被害｣の構図の逆説あるいは亀裂、そしてその逆説の構図が持つ意味を考察した。
