The objective of this study is to analyze the research trends in character education, centering on theses published in academic journals (those registered or to be registered in KCI). In total, 279 theses were analyzed, and the results are as follows: First, as for the terms, “character education” and “creative character education,”the term, “character education,”has been consistently used separately since 2011. Second, the largest portion of researches in character education focuses on integrated aspects of autonomy and virtue cultivation. To Promoting character education is the most frequently stated study objective, while studies on character education program development, character education effect verification, and specific cases of character education account for about 10% of the total. Third, research areas are divided to curriculum education and extra curricular education, and more studies focus on the latter. although 99 theses (33.4%) are on various subjects in curriculum education. Fourth, as for research objects, the largest portion of research was conducted among elementary school students. while the smallest portion was carried out among college students. As for other characteristics, 35 theses (12.5%) attempt to connect character education to religious education, and only 1% discuss education for prisoners or the disabled. As for the significance of the research findings, this study suggests a discussion on the selection of which character virtues are to be considered, the necessity of a comprehensive approach to character education, the possible combination of curriculum education and character education, and the verification of character education’s effects.

이 연구는 학회지(KCI 등재지 및 등재 후보지)에 게재된 논문을 중심으로 인성교육 연구 동향에 대하여 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 분석 대상 논문은 총 279편이다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘인성교육’과 ‘창의·인성교육’의 용어 사용은 2010년을 제외하고 2011년부터는‘인성교육’을 단독으로 사용하는 추세가 두드러지게 나타났다. 둘째, 인성교육의 목적은 자율성 함양과 덕목 함양을 동시에 육성하는 통합적 측면의 연구가 가장 많았다. 연구 자체의 목적은 인성교육 활성화에 대한 연구가 가장 많았고, 인성교육 프로그램 개발, 인성교육 효과 검증, 인성교육 사례에 대한 연구들은 10% 내외 수준으로 나타났다. 셋째, 연구 분야는 교과교육과 기타 교육으로 구분한 결과 교과교육보다 기타 교육이 많이 연구된 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 교과교육도 99편(33.4%)으로 다양한 교과에서 다양하게 연구되었다. 넷째, 연구 대상은 초등학생을 대상으로 연구한 것이 가장 많았으며 대학생을 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 적게 나타났다. 특성별로는 인성교육을 종교교육과 연결하려는 연구가 35편(12.5%), 교도소와 장애인은 1% 내외 정도로 미흡하게 나타났다. 연구 동향 분석 결과 시사점은 인성 덕목 선정에 대한 논의, 인성교육의 통합적 접근 필요, 교과교육과 인성교육의 접목, 인성교육 적용 효과 검증이 필요한 것으로 제안하였다.
