In this paper, characteristics of optical transmission are studied for the visible light communication (VLC) and we proposed a duty cycle ratio mode selection (DCRMS) scheme. The VLC technology can provide lighting functions and wireless communication services simultaneously using LED devices. Generally, the VLC systems are composed of multi- illuminance sources and receivers. At this time, transmission path differences from each illuminance source to the receivers can lead to interference by delay of the received signals and it is a cause of system performance degradation. In order to solve this problem, we proposed a DCRMS scheme based on OOK-RZ (On-Off Keying-Return to Zero) pulse modulation. In accordance with received power information of received signals, the proposed scheme can transmit signals by selecting an optimum ratio of guard duration. Through computer simulation, the results of system performance are confirmed for various duty cycle ratio.
