Objective: This study was executed in order to apprehend the current state of consultation in the area of occupational therapy for parents who have children with disabilities, and to examine their desire for consultation. Methods: The participants were 177 parents and family members with children with a disability, who have consulted with an occupational therapist at least once a week in an occupational therapy clinic located in a pediatric psychiatrist clinic, welfare center, or private clinic based in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. The survey consisted of general information on the participants, their current state of consultation regarding occupational therapy for their children, and their desire for such consultation. Results: For the contents of the consultation, the participants reported in order the information regarding the therapy process and program, the behavior characteristics of their children with a disability and how to treat them, and the goal of occupational therapy. They reported that consultations helped them understand their children’s development level and the purpose of occupational therapy, and they vowed to continue treatment. Among the parents’ preferences regarding their consultation, the content, duration, and desired time were not at odds with the current status, but many desired to be consulted with both parents present together. Conclusion: The study results indicate that a consultation can be planned and processed more efficiently and applicably based on the desire of the parents.

본 연구는 작업치료에서의 장애아동 부모상담 실태를 파악하고 부모의 상담욕구를 확인하기 위한 목적으로 실시하였다. 연구방법: 연구 대상자는 서울, 경기에 소재한 소아정신과 의원, 복지관, 사설 센터의 작업치 료실을 이용하며 주 1회 이상 작업치료사와 상담을 받은 장애아동 부모 및 가족 177명이었다. 설문지는 대상자의 일반적 정보, 작업치료에서의 장애아동 부모상담 실태와 부모의 상담욕구 등으로 구성하였다. 결과: 연구대상자의 92.0%는 정기적으로 부모상담을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 부모상담 시 다루는 내용은 작업치료 과정 및 프로그램 정보, 장애아동의 행동 특성과 대처 방법, 작업치료의 목표에 대한 정보를 제공한다는 순으로 응답하였다. 부모상담의 효과는 자녀의 발달수준과 작업치료의 이해도를 높이고 치료를 지속적으로 받는데 도움이 된다고 보고하였다. 부모의 상담욕구 중 원하는 상담 내용은 장애아동의 행동특성과 대처방법 제공, 치료과정 및 프로그램 정보 제공, 자녀의 발달에 대한 정보 제공 순으로 필요하다고 응답하였다. 부모상담 욕구 중 시간 및 시점은 현황과 큰 차이가 없었으나 어머니와 아버지가 함께 상담 받고 싶은 욕구가 높았다. 결론: 이와 같은 연구의 결과를 토대로 작업치료에서의 장애아동 부모상담 시 부모의 욕구를 반영하여 효과적인 장애아동 부모상담을 계획하고 진행할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
