This thesis paper divides the works of Fumiko Hayashi into three groups – first, middle, and last – and analyzes each group. It mainly focuses on Hayashi’s anti-war sentiments in her post-war works which fall under the last of the three groups that are analyzed. In the first group, she describes her vagabond life, and in the middle, she portrays her accomplishments as a member of the pen unit during the war. But, most importantly, in her post-war works - in the last group – her major theme is about social phenomena with which people have to live in an unstable society as a result of the war. Hayashi begins by portraying the realities of war at the frontline and the sorrows experienced by the families of the soldiers on active duty, in her first post-war works Snowstorm and Rain. In her last work Rice, she describes the rice crisis in Osaka on the 6th anniversary of the end of the war, and the lives of the common people who stage protests for higher wages. She attempts to inspire anti-war sentiments in her reader by reflecting on the social phenomena caused by war through focusing especially on the problems of war widows and demobilized soldiers, and the hardships suffered by the common people due to economic difficulties in an unstable society.

이 논문에서는 후미코의 작품을 전, 중, 후반부로 나누어 분석한 후, 후반부에 속하는 전후 작품을 중점적으로 반전의식을 고찰하였다. 전반부에 자신의 방랑생활, 중반부에 전쟁 중 펜부대 일원으로서의 활약상을 그리고 있다면, 후반부에 속하는 전후 작품부터는 전쟁으로 인한 불안한 사회에서 살아갈 수밖에 없는 사회현상들을 주제로 삼고 있다. 후미코는 전후 첫 작품 『눈보라』『비』에서 부터 전장에서의 실상과 남겨진 가족의 아픔을 시작으로, 마지막 작품 『밥』에서는 전후 6년을 맞이한 오사카의 쌀파동과 임금인상을 위해 데모를 하는 서민들의 생활상을 그리고 있다. 특히, 전쟁미망인과 복원병의 문제, 그리고 불안한 사회에서 경제적 어려움을 감수해야만 하는 서민들의 고통에 관심을 가지며, 전쟁으로 인한 사회현상을 섬세하게 작품 속에 담아내어 반전의식을 고취시키고 있다.
